Brooks Riesling 2006
WINEMAKING NOTES The grapes were hand sorted and 100% destemmed. the fruit settled for 1-2 days after pressing and racking to age in small lot stainless steel fermentation tanks. The temperatures dropped to 52-55 degrees and yeast was added. Fermentations lasted from five weeks to six months, depending upon the lot. Once complete, the wines were racked off the lees and individual lots were tasted to determine the overall blend of vineyards. We bottled this wine in spring of 2007 to capture the austere, bold and very varietal characters. TASTING NOTES Immediate read more...aromas of green apple, minerals, white currents, raspberries, cherries and citrus. After some time in the glass chestnuts, honey, slate, lime and mint all make an appearance. The focus pushes the wine into the mid-palate with concentrated flavors of stone and honey. There is great power, succulence and depth in this gorgeous wine.

This wine is all over the place. initially it tastes like green apple juice. over the course of the evening (as the wine rose in temperature) the dominant flavor became those lemon candies that your grandma left on her counter. almost a diet lemon snapple component. the finish has a hint of that lovely petrol/kerosene profile that is so typical of Riesling. this wine is food friendly with basically anything. I had it with thai food. it's a white wine for red wine lovers.
Yet another US riesling that blows Eroica out of the water. Aromas of lime, apple, meyer lemon, petrol, and stone. Flavors of lime, honey, slate, and currants. Exceptionally complex, exceptionally good with food--and under $20. Note from day 2: this is going to be ok for short-term aging. Drinking even better on day 3, preserved for 48 hours with vacuum pump. Only 493 cases produced. Run, do not walk.
Having a difficult time with a number rating on this -- but very much liked this Riesling. Apple and citrus on the nose...a bit 'steely' honeydew with nice balance. Enjoyed with food and alone. A very good deal for under $20.
