Brooks Pinot Noir "Janus" Willamette Valley 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

Classic aromas of dusty bing cherries, ripe raspberries, minerals, cassis, violets and juicy blackberries leap from the glass. Warmer more complex aromas of baking spices and curry emerge with further aeration. In the mouth the attack opens the wine on the palate with a burst of juicy red fruits and beautiful focus. The red fruit quality is soon enveloped by a wonderful mineral/wet stone presence that is wrapped around a firm, but ripe tannic core. On the finish the wine hits its stride and blossoms with richness and intensity, a hallmark of a classic Pinot Noir that is built to age gracefully.

This wine has beautiful color. Perfect Pinot Noir color.Clear and transparent burgundy red from the center tothe rim. When first poured mouthwatering fresh aromaticsof bing cherries, ripe raspberries, red currents, wetstones, minerals, tobacco, violets and sage jump from theglass. Over time the wine opens and deepens revealingnotes of clean earth, bread dough, cloves, cinnamon andwalnut skin. Clearly focused and complex the aromas ofthe wine herald a wine that is truly classic Oregon Pinotnoir. In the mouth, the attack opens with juicy red fruitflavors and beautifully ripe acidity. The juiciness, focusand freshness of the wine continue through the mid-palateand transform into elegant and beautiful waves ofearth and fruit. Ripe tannins and a succulent texturealso help the wine along and give it more definition intothe long finish. The finish is clean, very very long andfocused. Although the 2007 Janus is drinking well now,it has the focus, balance and intensity to age and becomemore complex over the next 15 years. Beautiful.

Lean, focused and beautifully composed, this gentle wine has a dark red cherry scent accented by pepper and carob spice. The texture is silky, the finish is marked by fine acids and a faint spine of minerals.
