External Reviews for Brokenwood Pinot Noir
Light red. Heady aromas of strawberry, raspberry and smoky spices. Lively, supple red berry flavors are complicated by tangy spice and floral qualities. Very suave, with a sweet, lively, persistent finish and no rough edges. This is delicious right now. The 2008 Pinots are very well made but perhaps the heat spikes in 2008 robbed them of that extra finesse. Giving a pale ruby color, the 2008 Pinot Noir has pretty wild cherry and raspberry aromas with a suggestion of moss and dried mint. There's a good amount of pure, straightforward berry fruit on the palate countered by crisp acidity and a low to medium level of fine tannins. The finish is long yet a little simple. Drink it now to 2015. Starts off with cherry, cedar and slightly mushroomy aromas, delivering more of the same on the palate. This nicely concentrated wine is medium-bodied and shows some tannin and crisp acids on the finish. That said, opt for drinking it over the near term. - J.C.
Light and silky, with a lovely burst of cherry and raspberry fruit up front, lingering on the polished finish with hints of cream and flowers. Drink now through 2013. 200 cases imported. -HS Medium red. Smoky cherry and dark berry aromas, with deeper licorice and sassafras qualities adding complexity. Silky black raspberry and cherry compote flavors are broad and sweet, with musky herbs gaining strength with air. Finishes with a hint of sweet maple and gentle lift.
Winemaker's Notes:
A mid-weight pinot noir. Good depth of colour and youthful purple tints evident. Great complexity to the aromas. Lifted red cherry over sweet earthy savoury characters with a touch of oak sweetness. The balance is aided by ripe tannins giving a lingering finish. This will mature further, although enjoyable as a fresh, zippy young Pinot Noir. Food: Duck, quail and steak tartare.
