Broc Cellars "Ventana Vineyard" Monterey Grenache 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

Notes on the Broc Cellars Grenache Ventana Vineyard Monterey 2006 : NVWE NOTES: This is a brightly focused and tasty Grenache, with complex aromas of strawberry, red plum, white pepper, sumac and smoke. It is more directly fruity on the palate, where deeper strawberry and cherry fruit notes dominate a background of white pepper, smoke and new leather. The finish is fully dry, gently crisp and lingering, but not tannic. A delightful, versatile bottling, it should prove as delicious with grilled salmon as with pizza. 230 cases produced. WINEMAKER NOTES: Shades of peppercorn spice; black, green, pink, and most prominently white, dominate the bouquet and palate of this exuberant, medium-bodied wine. This is a well balanced wine with rustic, Cotesdu-Rhone-like garrigue and dust. It possesses a brilliant medium-garnet color. The shorter barrel aging gives a youthful, fruit forward tenacity to this wine. Flavors of bright red berry fruit, including cherry, strawberry and raspberry, mingle with the peppery spice, and briney dust to create a focused, young, fun wine.BROC CELLARS GRENACHE VENTANA VINEYARD MONTEREY 2006

Broc Cellars was nothing more than an idea not that long ago, formed by Chris Brockway, about making wines that were “site specific”. Where the wines true character came from using only sustainably, organically, or biodynamically grown grapes from areas that most would consider marginal climates. Believing that vineyards develop ‘true’ character and complexity when they have to struggle to survive. This can come from many different aspects: poor nutrient and water holding capacity, steep slopes, cool temperatures, or from old vines that are dry farmed. Read less
