Brin d'Epice Cot Touraine 2014

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine for £12 from a shop in London [www.boroughwines.co.uk]. The Touraine appellation was created in 1939 [although viticulture here goes back to at least the Romans] for red, rose, white and sparkling wines from 70 communes around the City of Tours in the Loire valley. It is an 'umbrella'appellation because it includes a number of smaller appellations.Domaine du Chapitre is a small family owned concern. My bottle is 100% cot as the malbec grape is called in these parts.I started my bottle last night with my bacon and mushroom pasta dish.It is certainly a full-bodied wine. There is some fairly intense blackcurrant, blackberry and bramble style fruit with a suggestion of licorice. There are soft, well structured and smooth tannins and a very spicy finish. In short, this is a lovely red wine that would go well with most meat dishes.

Domaine du Chapitre [Touraine]:
This estate is owned and run by brother and sister Maryline and Francois Desloges and it has been in their family for 200 years. They have 25 hectares under vine and produce a range of red, rose, white and sparkling wines. In addition, they also produce fruit and vegetables.
