Yields averaged 3.8 lbs/plant in our tightly spaced vineyard of 8 x 3 spacing equating to 1,815 vines/acre. The fruit was hand-harvested then gently whole-cluster pressed, cold-settled overnight and transferred by gravity to barrel for fermentation with 20% new French oak entirely from Damy, partial malo-lactic (±30%) and subsequent sur lie aging without any lees disturbance. 15.3% alcohol. tasting notes Stylistically similar to previous chardonnays from our Santa Rita Hills estate with refined aromatics of candied lemon, lime skin, orange blossom and citrus oil. It is pure and clean with additional hints of crushed white rock, orange rind, orange melon and lemon tart. These motifs continue wrapping around the palate keeping the wine laser crisp and fresh offering added complexity and texture finishing with great drive.

The Montrachet-like 2004 Chardonnay Ashley s Vineyard (made with a Mt. Eden clone of Chardonnay) displays a liquid-like minerality as well as unbelievably broad, intense flavors of white currants, peaches, subtle honey, and orange blossoms. Super-rich and long with great definition, this cool climate effort is a fabulous example of a remarkably nuanced and complex Chardonnay. It should be consumed over the next 10-12 years.
