Breggo Cellars Pinot Noir 2012

External Review:

The 2010 Pinot Noir (Anderson Valley) is a gorgeous introduction to the Breggo wines. Juicy, dark cherries, flowers, sweet spices and a hint of oak emerge from a supple, juicy Pinot perfectly suited for drinking over the next few years. This is an especially forward Anderson Valley Pinot with plenty of appeal. Anticipated maturity: 2013–2017.

Deep red. Potent aromas of cherry and dark berries, with a smoky overtone. Shows deep but lively blackberry and bitter cherry flavors lifted by a touch of peppery spices. Sweeter on the finish, leaving behind an exotic floral pastille quality.

Rough-hewn, dense and chewy, with fresh earth, dried berry and licorice and savory tannins. Needs time. Best from 2013 through 2022.

The 2009 Pinot Noir has loads of pomegranate, sweet and sour cherries, and spice box. It is pleasantly similar to a light to medium-bodied generic Cote de Beaune. Drink it over the next 2–3 years.

Bright ruby-red. Sexy, fragrant bouquet of raspberry, candied cherry and rose oil, plus a deeper note of black tea. Sweet red and dark fruits on the palate, with suggestions of spicecake and candied rose adding complexity. Sappy, open-knit and seamless on the finish, with the spicy note repeating. I really like this wine’s blend of sweet and spicy qualities; this makes a a wonderful “basic” pinot.

Blended from four vineyards — two warmer sites near Booneville and two closer to the coast — this is bright and earthy, with a graceful softness to its red berry fruit. Oak aging has sweetened that fruit and mellowed the clay-like earthiness of the tannin. It feels supple, filling the mouth with heady flavor, a red to serve with braised duck.
