Editorial Reviews for Brazin Zinfandel Lodi Old Vine
Briary nose with spicy, slightly notes and roasted black raspberry fruit framed with toast and coffee notes. Big and pretty fruit-driven right on entry, with noticeable alcohol and extract. This is a big wine for lovers of big wines. The flavors are rich and fresh: cherry fruit with wood spice and some herbal accents over a light underlay of vanilla. The alcohol also shows on the modest finish. 86pts

Add your reviewI don't know what year this Brazin listing is for, but the 2006 is wonderful! I saw it last night as a new addition to my local wine store and thought I'd give it a shot as I usually really like anything from the Lodi region, and I was not disappointed in the slightest. In fact, I think it's going to be included among my regular buys. It's a very smooth zinfandel with a very nice level of spice throughout versus the big POW at the end. I also got a hint of floral in there as well--albeit very slight but just enough to tease me into wanting more. Check it out and let me know if you agree!
Pure garbage. Undrinkable. Alcoholic, thin. Worthless. Add this "wine" to the parts cleaner bin. Anyone who could find anything within this junk worthy of anything positive must be on meth.
Paired well with good tandoori grill, spicy mint chutney, nice memorable bite to it at the start, astringent, then smooth, haven't compared to many zins yet, better than Gnarly Head in every way except price. Liking the bottle design, somehow thinking that's factoring into that extra half glass rating...
This is a really smooth zin. Dark fruit flavor...seems to not linger on palate, which was disappointing because it was so good.
Wow. Take a sip of this before letting it breathe if you want some flavors that will knock you on your a--. After this breathes and calms down you get a very versatile wine that for me has gone great with everything from BBQ, to pizza, steak, and even with just a good old fashioned bag of salty chips. Nice strong fruit flavors, and it leaves a nice layer of flavor on the palate for a good 10-20 seconds, maybe even a bit longer. I also like to bottle design as someone else mentioned. Def. a good bottle to bring to a party, and it can be found for under $15.

Lodi is a prime source for old vine Zinfandel. The warm climate and and the good draining sandy soils let roots go deep and vines get stressed looking for water. Many of the old plantings go back 100 years and because the sandy soil is inhospitable to phyloxera some are still on their original root stock. Brazin sources these grapes, many from the Cusamano vineyard in the Mokelumne River sub-AVA of Lodi. Vines average 40-100 year old and the fruit is deeply concentrated and expressive. Aged seven months in a combination of French and American oak, this wine shows bright berry and spice flavors with a rich, mouthfilling texture. The flavors linger on the finish with notes of chocolate and black raspberry. This wine shows complexity way beyond its price point. Awarded no less than 4 medal including a Gold Medal in the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, they described it as "True to character...exhibits aromas of dark fruit and spice; flavors of plum, spice and chocolate; long finish."
Winemaker Notes - Once your eyes glimpse Brazin s deep and inky color, they ll alert your other senses to fasten their seat belts.
