Still open on the nose, with fresh red fruit topped with lots of nutty oak, a hint of butter, toasty spice notes and a meaty edge. Transparent and bright in the mouth, this is very tight today and I didn’t have enough time to tell where it’s really going. There’s no doubt that this has fine structure, and fresh, ripe fruit, but I can’t get much more out of it. 89-92 points

Perhaps a little under-ripe on the nose but at the same time this is quite focused with floral framed, fleshy red fruits that are tart and candied smelling with coconut accents. Bright and precise in the mouth with a touch of oak early on the palate followed by an austere and fresh feel. Smaller scaled with crisp black and red fruits supported by bright acids and fresh little tannins that add energy and length to the finish Just lovely 92pts

A bit spicy on the nose with nice notes of rose stems, pink peppercorn, mineral red fruit and a touch of salt with hints of melon rind. On the palate this shows a fine mineral edge, it’s small scaled but very well balanced and transparent with lovely ripe raspberry fruit. The tannins are quite ripe and the acid fully integrated. On the back end this shows a lean nature, slightly austere though very fresh with cranberry and cherry pit fruit that carries through on the modest finish. 86pts

Mostly oaky spice on the nose, which is tight but does slowly reveal hints of crushed blackcurrant and blackberry fruit. This is a bit dense and closed in on itself, but there is a gorgeous core of red and black fruit here and really lovely ripe tannins as well as integrated acidity that keeps this fresh and lively in the mouth. The finish shows typical wood spice notes, but there is a trailing hint of minerality here as well as a fine depth of fruit and rich, soft texture. This needs a few years, but is going to be really attractive. 92 points

ight and reticent on the nose which shows hints of dusty minerals and very fine leather and pencil notes with some late to arrive crushed red currant notes. In the mouth this is surprisingly opulent and ripe with lots of rich black currant fruit. There’s seemingly less tannin here than in previous vintages, even though the tannins appears to be a bit dryer in nature. Elegant and pure, this shows off a big pop on the finish which then fades away with a gentle toasted oak sweetness. 89pts

Extremely fruity on the nose, like cherry jolly ranchers. A hint of spice and cherry, with tannins that are almost too strong.

Blackberry, cocoa powder, peppers. I like the nose a lot. The mouth is smooth and oaky, with some nice pepperiness on the finish.

absolutely delicious comes to mind first! lucious red fruit, a bit of cocoa and milk chocolate but more rustic on the nose, with a peppery finish.

Peppery Hence the Syrah.. Not much nose at first.....until about an hour later. A unique and strong finish. This wine is all end palate. A unique and enjoyable blend. I'm not blown away....but I did like it. Cheers!

Estate grown fruit, earthy and herbal on the nose with some spice and cherry. Dusty tannins with great acidity.

A long, cold winter delayed the start of the growing season. Beginning in early July, a series of heat waves led to a strong inversion, which warmed the typically cool nights, and moderated acidity. Optimal daytime temperatures allowed the vines to catch up. Veraison began in late July, and grape sampling in late August. The first block was picked September 23, the last on October 12-a day before very heavy rains. Seventeen estate cabernet parcels were selected by blind tasting. Elegant and approachable now, this superb vintage will continue to develop over the next ten to fifteen years. - WineryComposition:77% CABERNET SAUVIGNON23% MERLOTALCOHOL BY VOLUME: 13.8% ** SOLD OUT **

Opaque garnet color. Layered cassis and blackbeirry, fennel, dark chocolate, limestone/mineral notes, toasty oak. Complex fruit, tannins, and oak are impressively balanced. Drinkable now, and over the next fifteen years. -Winery ** Only 5 in Stock **

The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is compelling. Where to start? An expressive bouquet redolent of sweet herbs, tobacco and incense leads to a gorgeous tapestry of dark red fruit. The Estate is drop-dead gorgeous, with the silkiest of tannins that frame an extraordinary finish. This has to be one of the most compelling values in California Cabernet. In 2008 the blend is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Draper describes 2008 as the driest of the three drought years spanning 2006-2008. The 2008 is the first vintage for the Cabernet Sauvignon, which used to be called Santa Cruz Mountains. In 2008 a spring harvest frost damaged much of the Merlot crop, so there was no natural outlet for the Merlot that had previously been used in the Santa Cruz Mountains bottling, but in 2009 there will be a new Merlot bottling. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2028. (from Monte Bello Vineyard): Vivid ruby. Oak-spicy aromas of redcurrant, dried cherry ...

Winemaker's Notes:

"Aromas of blackberry, red currant, exotic barrel spice, and crushed rock. Intense red fruit on entry with coated tannins, a full body, firm acid, and toasted oak. Complex with layered flavors and a long finish. In 1886 the Monte Bello vineyard was first planted and construction on the winery begun. The first vintage was in 1892. In the early 1940s, the last of the old vineyard was abandoned; in the late forties a few blocks were replanted. Those cabernet vines—now sixty years old—produced the first Ridge Monte Bello (1962) and subsequent vintages until the mid-seventies. By then, abandoned blocks replanted during the sixties were maturing, and their fruit considered for use in the Monte Bello. A number of those consistently produced a more accessible wine that developed its full complexity earlier and these were combined as the “Santa Cruz Mountains.” With the 2008 vintage the name of this stylistically distinct wine becomes Ridge Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, stressing the varietal and the Monte Bello vineyard as its source." -Winery
