Food Pairings for Branson Coach House Shiraz Barossa Valley Coach House
I was very fortunate to pick up a five bottle lot of mixed Australian wines- the Branson Coach House the heavy hitter of the five bottles- and was NOT prepared for just how serious this wine would be. Somehow this thing behaved more like a fifteen year-old 3rd growth Bordeaux. Fantastic viscosity plush with saddleback leather and smoked meats. Parker, for all the heat he's taken in some corners for his love of Aussie Shiraz- hit this one out of the park in giving it a 97. Fantastic wine. If you can get it anywhere south of $80, jump on it. You'll be the opposite of disappointed.
ALCOHOL % / VOL 15.2% TITRATABLE ACIDITY 7.5 pH 3.3 CELLAR POTENTIAL 15+ years MATURATION 20 months in 30% new American oak hogsheads the balance in 1 and 2 year old oak. ESTATE GROWN, MADE AND BOTTLED. Tasting Notes Deep blood red, almost black at the core. A bouquet that is almost crammed with enticing aromas, displaying an amalgam of complex smells. Blackberry nip, kirsch, cola, mocha and vanilla. A solid wine with that heralds typical Barossa-like dense fruit with balanced but opulent mouth coating tannins. There is plenty of depth and mid- palate richness to see this wine live in optimal cellaring conditions for 15+years. Partner with full flavoured foods or hard cheeses. Winemaking The grapes were crushed into and fermented in open top potters, with regular pump overs twice daily to extract colour and tannin. The grapes were then pressed and the wine was transferred to tank and then racked to barrel for oak maturation.
