Brandlin Mount Veeder Cabernet 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Spectator Review A ripe, juicy Mount Veeder offering, with black cherry and wild berry fruit thats well-proportioned and focused. Tightens up midpalate, showing its tannic muscle on the finish. New second label of Cuvaison. Drink now through 2013. Wine Tasting Notes Deep ruby red. Blend of cinnamon and clove with black currant, cassis and black cherry fruit. Full bodied with licorice and plum, supported by an ample core of firm, yet supple, tannins characteristic of mountain-grown Cabernet.

Perched at 900 to 1,150 feet in elevation, the vineyard is divided into 15 discrete blocks facing every point on the compass. This block differentiation leverages the site’s varied aspects in sun exposure, slope and soil composition, each providing distinct fruit characteristics. In addition to the high elevation, the vineyard’s location in the southern section of the Mount Veeder AVA, provides more moderate temperatures than much of the Napa Valley. Fruit ripens slowly, and harvest may take place from late September to early November. Steep slopes of schisty, gravelly loam on shale provide the quick drainage, low yields and drought stress typical of true mountain sites. Grapes develop a high skin to flesh ratio, resulting in richly concentrated wines of great complexity, with firm tannin structure for long-term aging. Read less
