Brandborg Riesling Umpqua Valley 2009

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Sweet/tart on the nose with candied yet tart aromas of citrus framed with a woodsy almost vanilla note and some cherry candy elements. fairly dry in the mouth, this has plenty of body and comes off as feeling fairly powerful and rich while delivering a hint of apricot layered over deep mineral and slightly herbal flavors on the palate. Dusty and stoney with dried apple fruit and dried floral notes on the long, firm finish this is drinking awfully well today and deserves a pretty powerful dish to be paired with. Veal stuffed with a touch of apricot laced herbal stuffing and served with mushrooms in cream perhaps. 89pts

Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Lean smelling with layered notes of crisp apple fruit under white floral tones and hints of river stones. Sweet on entry but very Kabinett-like with good acidity and a lovely, light bodied feel. The citrus and green apple fruit is very pure and clean feeling with some fine edge details of herbs and flowers adding nice complexity and offering good persistence right through the very refreshing and moderately long finish. 91pts

Nose of fresh baked bread, floral and mint. Nose reminds me of Cuvee Emile (Trimbach). Flavors of sweet spicy fruit with mineral, yet totally dry. Nice acidity. Finest west coast Riesling I have had, with none of the heaviness found in many of the OR-WA Rieslings. Probably will drink well for another two years; no evidence of fading.
