Branaire Ducru St. Julien 2013

Winemaker's Notes:

*2013 Bordeaux Future due Fall 2016*An elegant, floral style of St.-Julien, with violet and lilac notes out front, followed by rooibos tea, red currant and bitter cherry flavors. The long, stony finish has ample acidity and drive. This should develop into a charmer. —J.M.*Wine Spectator Score: 89–92pts* *We will notify you on arrival. Summer 2016.*

Deep and a bit oily and inky on the nose with aromas of black fruit and dusty gravel This has that sweet savory aspect to it with a base of nutty oak,, a really powerful and complex nose. Powerful on entry as well but but tight and a bit austere and blocky in the mouth. Tight and promising today but not showing terribly much in the mouth today, this finishes tight and a bit chunky with nice black currant fruit. Has a lot in reserve. 91pts

Moist soil rich in clay greets the nose along with notes of charry wood, cinnamon, and beefy. This is a bit sweet and soft in the mouth with a hard currant, candied fruit edge that’s a touch diffuse but really quite balanced with nice inner mouth tension and a seductive feel. The finish shows a touch darker with a lovely black cherry finale. 90pts

Dense and dark smelling, cocoa, oaky, minty, very thin mints – soft entry, velvety, a bit opaque but the core of wild berry fruit does pop on the mid-palate, ripe tannins, seductive feel, good fruit drives through on the moderately long finish (91-92)

Dark garnet colored wine with brush and animal aromas. Floral, brush, dark cherry and berry and tobacco flavors. Rich and round with a great finish on fruit and spice. Potent! A Bordeaux that has it all.

This wine has great earthiness and is very "terroir" driven. It's definitely very French and will only improve with more time. - WS Grand Tour 2011

This wine is based on tannins, yet it also has weight and a complex fruit structure. Its power lies in the density of its texture. Wine Enthusiast. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2011 Branaire-Ducru 1500ml

From an assemblage of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon 23.5% Merlot 4% Petit Verdot and 2.5% Cabernet Franc (Similar to the 2009) the wine sports a deep ruby tint. Jammy black raspberry spice and hints of toasty oak start off the perfume. In the mouth fresh cassis mocha olives and spice combine with strong ripe tannins ending in a blackberry filled finish. The wine reached 13.8% alcohol which is higher than they recorded in 2009. Due to the high level of acidity there is no sensation of heat. According to the owner Patrick Maroteaux one of the keys to the success in 2010 is due to their new method of handling the press wine. This includes ageing the press wine in one year old barrels and utilizing more selection in the press wine. 40% of the press wine was allocated to the Grand Vin. The remainder was included in the second wine. Jeff Leve.

This has guts, offering dark fig, plum and cocoa notes carried by velvety but substantial tannins, with a very long, smoke- and plum sauce-filled finish that has well-embedded acidity. -J.M. Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2010 Branaire-Ducru 1500ml
