On the nose, the 2006 Grist Vineyard Syrah offers such unexpected pleasures as leather, roasted coffee bean, French vanilla and persimmon bread. Typical Syrah flavors of fig and plum are beautifully embellished by undercurrents of blackberry jam and hints of Moroccan spice. The round, brooding mouth feel leads the way into a strong firm structure and a bright tannic finish. Pair with Moroccan spiced lamb with couscous, Italian sausage sandwich with peppers and onions, or Foie gras with huckleberry sauce.
