Their goal is to produce an affordable range of wines from South Australia that reflect local flavors. The wines are hand-crafted at Hentley Farm from grapes sourced from choice vineyard sites across South Australia. From the VS Imports website: “A number of different winemakers were involved in the Boxhead Shiraz winemaking, with responsibilities split by regionality. All parcels were crushed, destemmed and left on skins for approximately 10 days during primary ferment. The parcels were then pressed and kept separate for malolactic fermentation. A portion underwent malolactic fermentation and maturation in new and 1yr old French barriques to add complexity.” Read less

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2010 Shiraz has notes of ripe cassis and warm blackberries over hints of coffee, tar and licorice. Medium-full bodied, crisp and with a medium level of chewy tannins, it finishes with good persistence giving lingering licorice notes.

Ripe and generous, with a steely edge to the blackberry and tobacco flavors, lingering nicely. Drink now through 2013.
