Boxhead Winemakers Shiraz 2008

External Review by Premier Wine & Spirits:

Inky ruby color. spicy blackberry and cherry aromas are complemented by cracked pepper and dried violet. juicy, plump fruit flavors betray no rough edges and are enlivened by a tangy mineral note. Round and gently sweet on the finish, which is a tad jammy but delivers good power and persistence.

Their goal is to produce an affordable range of wines from South Australia that reflect local flavors. The wines are hand-crafted at Hentley Farm from grapes sourced from choice vineyard sites across South Australia. From the VS Imports website: “A number of different winemakers were involved in the Boxhead Shiraz winemaking, with responsibilities split by regionality. All parcels were crushed, destemmed and left on skins for approximately 10 days during primary ferment. The parcels were then pressed and kept separate for malolactic fermentation. A portion underwent malolactic fermentation and maturation in new and 1yr old French barriques to add complexity.” Read less

Bright and jammy, offering a nice mouthful of black cherry and citrusy spice flavors that linger nicely on the easygoing finish. Drink now.
