Boxhead Chardonnay 2011

External Review by Premium Wine & Spirits:

This is a medium-bodied Chardonnay from Australia and is oak-free. Don’t be fooled into thinking it is thin and unimaginative like a good number of unoaked Chardonnays, because there are plenty of attractive fruit aromas and flavors. The first whiff of lemon is immediately followed by spiced apple and subtle peach that will put you in the fall frame of mind. This wine tastes of baked apple with lemon zest and a lingering flavor of baking spice.

Their goal is to produce an affordable range of wines from South Australia that reflect local flavors. The wines are hand-crafted at Hentley Farm from grapes sourced from choice vineyard sites across South Australia. From the VS Imports website: “A number of different winemakers were involved in the Boxhead Shiraz winemaking, with responsibilities split by regionality. All parcels were crushed, destemmed and left on skins for approximately 10 days during primary ferment. The parcels were then pressed and kept separate for malolactic fermentation. A portion underwent malolactic fermentation and maturation in new and 1yr old French barriques to add complexity.” Read less

Light-bodied with a soft finish. Bright tropical fruit and notes of vanilla and honey.
