Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Beaune Albert Bichot 2003

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine for £15 from a wine merchant in Sussex partly because it has a 'Tastevinage Confrerie de Chevaliers du Tastevin''label on it which usually means it is pretty good.It is from the Hautes Cotes de Beaune appellation,an area of higher ground to the west of the main wine producing area of the Cotes D'Or which gained AOC status in 1961.Albert Bichot is a well known firm of negociants and vineyard owners founded in 1831 and still in the same family..I started my bottle yesterday evening with my steak.Unusually for a Burgundy it tasted musty and tannic although there was plenty of a raspberry like fruit there.Subtle and delicate it was not..At least it was not so smooth as to be bland like one or two Burgundies and it certainly went well with the steak. However the Hautes Cotes de Beaune from the Les Caves des Hautes Cotes de Beaune co-operative I had a few months ago was a better bottle

Albert Bichot:
From !#%0, the Bichot family was established in Burgundy, with a deer as a symbol. is is only in the XIXth century that the family gets into the wine business, when Bernard Bichot founds in 1831 a wine brokerage.
