What to Expect

While Burgundy is renowned as the home of Pinot Noir, it is also the source for the ubiquitous Chardonnay grape. In these gently rolling hills Chardonnay achieves some of its most profound expressions. Appellations such as Meursault, Montrachet, and Corton Charlemagne proudly take their place among the most sought-after in all the world of wine. With a richness and complexity few wines can match, Chardonnay from Burgundy adds classic hints of flinty and chalky soil with nuances tones of nuts, cinnamon, honey and butter to the rich, sometimes unctuous but rarely heavy, ripe orchard fruits that the grapes are capable of providing. White Burgundy can improve in the bottle for decades and is arguably the most age-worthy dry white wine in the world.

Winemakers Notes

This is a light white wine, white gold in colour with strong green hues. Its fresh and simple flavours are evocative of grape, green apple and lemon. Its vividness and dominant tartness are enhanced by a discreet but adequate suppleness. It leaves a pleasant aromatic persistency of a fine subtlety.

Reviews

The little-known Aligoté grape has come a long way. In our opinions, this bottle reflects everything this white wine should offer: freshness, light, approachable fruit and all around affordability. Excellent with seafood soups or anything shellfish.

The little-known Aligoté grape has come a long way. In our opinion, this light-bodied bottling reflects everything this white wine should offer: freshness, approachable fruit, and all-around appeal. It is excellent with seafood soups, and virtually any dish containing shellfish.

A unique wine made from Aligoté, Burgundy's other white grape that produces crisp, refreshing wines. ALIGOTÉ is Burgundy's other white grape. Difficult to grow, intolerant of oak aging and higher in acidity than Chardonnay, it is rarely exported. However, the crisp and aromatic Aligoté yields refreshing wines that are better aperitifs and accompaniments to salty, spicy, and fatty foods than many unoaked Chardonnay. This example comes from Domaine des Remparts, one of the best small, family producers in Saint Bris. Take advantage of this opportunity to try this read more...
