Boulaouane Vin du Maroc NV
Member Review by duncan 906:
On my recent trip to France I visited a North African restaurant where I was served this bottle of red wine to accompany my couscous. Viticulture is believed to have been introduced to Morocco by the Phoeniecians before the Romans and it was a major industry during the French colonial periodbut in 1967 the EU introduced import quotas and production fell although in recent years quality has improved due to French investment. The town of Boulaouane is located on the slopes of the Atlas mountains near the Atlantic coast. The brand is owned by the Castel group and boasts that it is the highest selling foreign wine in France.I enjoyed it though I have been unable to find out much more about it such as the cepagement. There was a blackcurrant, cherry and plum style fruit there but the tannins were so soft as to be barely noticeable. However it was easy drinking and went well with my couscous dish and was not expensive.,
