Bouchard Pere et Fils Chevalier Montrachet France-Bordeaux-Dry White 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

"Very pale, green-tinged color. Captivating high-pitched aromas of lavender, herbs and dusty stone. Rich on entry, giving a dense, fine-grained, almost sweet impression, then surprising acidity and minerality enliven the middle palate. The finish conveys a slightly tannic impression but remains smooth and suave, not to mention very long. This classy Chevalier will need time to express itself...94" IWC 09/11

The reputation of the Grands Vins fins de Bourgogne is based on two varieties alone : Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. As early as 1866, Dr Jules Guyot in his book on viticulture of the centre north of France, wrote that: " the essence of the fine wines of the Côte d'Or, is the grape variety, the Pineau Noir or Noirien for the red wines; the Pineau Blanc or Chardenet for the white wines ". Mean and austere on the nose with some raw oak, mint and light meaty notes. On the palate, this was a touch soft and chewy with some mineral earth notes and herbal nuances. Not much is going on here, though the finish does show some lingering bitter tannins. 85 pts

Shy and a bit spicy on the nose. Slow to emerge smoke, earth and rhubarb notes lend this a less ripe and slight chunky tone. Soft and bright in the mouth, this is rather lacy and pure with red berry fruit. It is a bit on the simple side, but as balanced and fresh as this is, it is attractive. 88 pts

Tastes of honey, butter, very sweet on the pallet. Delicious wine!

09 CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET CLOS DU CHATEAU, 1ER CRU Chateau de la Maltroye , White Wine, 750ml Always a winner, this shows a purity and vibrance unusual for the vintage. A mingling of peaches and fresh citrus, laced with white flowers and flowing minerality. Stylishly serious - and most seriously delicious! https://www.burgundywinecompany.com/index.php?main_page=index&manufacturers_id=57&zenid=q3r430tvq2fbqtknceetrrpnn3

Deep red. Reticent aromas of black cherry and licorice. Quite ripe yet delicate on the palate, with good backbone to the juicy flavors of blackberry, herbs, spices and flowers. A gorgeously spicy nose that is pure and elegant speaks of blue and black pinot fruit warm earth and hoisin nuances. The extremely rich suave and silky medium weight plus flavors also display an abundance of tannin-buffering dry extract that coats the palate on the long serious and mildly austere finish. This is built to age and offers impressive depth. Don t miss! Burghound.

Good deep red. Complex aromas of black cherry licorice and minerals with nuances of mint dark chocolate and gingerbread. Sweet very ripe and concentrated with nicely integrated acidity and mineral lift animating the mid-palate. Finishes with a medicinal licorice note and a whiff of leather. I like this wine s relative delicacy for the vintage. Stephen Tanzers IWC.

Strong reduction blocks the nose though there is plenty of energy and punch to the detailed powerful and lightly mineral-driven flavors that possess both good size and solid weight especially on the vibrant balanced and seriously persistent finish. There is fine depth of material here and while this is somewhat awkward today I see no reason why this shouldn t be excellent in time. Burghound.
