Shy and a bit spicy on the nose. Slow to emerge smoke, earth and rhubarb notes lend this a less ripe and slight chunky tone. Soft and bright in the mouth, this is rather lacy and pure with red berry fruit. It is a bit on the simple side, but as balanced and fresh as this is, it is attractive. 88 pts

Sweet and sappy on the nose with very spicy fruit. Still a bit rigid in the mouth with good acids and just a touch of tannin sticking out. Still youthful but not particularly exciting. 87pts

Nice bottle sweetness and limestone minerality here with a gamy, smoky edge to the fading fruit. Very friendly in the mouth with nice freshness and fine balance. Gently sweet and still surprisingly vibrant. A pleasant surprise 88pts

SG$50 in Singapore. One of the biggest rip off I ever had.

This may be the most complex of all the wines we tasted this evening as you expect from a Grand Cru. Scents of violet, lavender, lemon, mineral, cinnamon and ginger all made appearances at various times as I kept returning to the glass to find something new. Citrus, spice and mineral played on my tongue along with an intense acidity that needs time to mellow, yet the wine itself seemed very light on the palate. It will very definitely reward those patient enough to let it reach full maturity.

After some decanting and swirling, the "funky" notes opened up to a fresh, lovely pinot nose of rich berry fruit like strawberry, raspberry, cranberry and some nice hints of spice and earth as well. Richly textured and well balanced, it stood up to a range of food from dinner. Food versatile and well rounded. Very enjoyable.

pale straw, apple pear and un-toasted oak with undernote of mushroom on nose. medium light body, medium finish. clean but not distinct. As an aside, 1/2 ounce of this wine spilled on my laptop screen killed the display--so it is strong stuff.

Deep cherry black color. Redolent of garden-variety flowers such as violets and even dying hyacinth with that wild, used leather to which we can add horse sweat. Brilliant. The same welcoming panoply of flavor greets the palate; there is cola, deepest ripe cherry and strawberry and some lively acidity. Very satisfying, long, refreshing finish. A very fine wine at a reasonable price. Will age another 3-5 years, but great as is!

Quite rich - in fact much richer than some Chevaliers. Big and bold and less racy than some. But lots of fun! Dense and deep flavoured. Some hint of smokiness as well as the richness. Very long. This also evidences a discreet but not invisible application of wood that does not unduly diminish the appeal of the overtly spicy and moderately ripe aromas of black raspberry and cherry liqueur. At present ...there are notes of reduction yet the nose seems fresh and ripe anyway. The cool, restrained and mineral-driven flavors possess good volume before terminating in a linear and persistent finish... Burghound. (24 hectoliters per hectare; three of the five barrels are new): Good ruby-red. Aromas of black cherry, minerals and licorice, plus a hint of bitter chocolate. Juicy, dense and tightly wound, with surprising acidity for a wine from this grand cru. L... Stephen Tanzers IWC. A restrained, indeed almost mute nose reluctantly gives up aromas of acacia, citrus peel, wet stone and white peach. A fresh and moderately rustic nose of red and dark berry fruit aromas is replete with various warm earth nuances that also suffuse the supple and almost surprisingly round flavors that are easy to like yet solidly complex. The mildly austere finale is well balanced and persistent and I suspect that this will in all likelihood tighten up significantly as the underlying structure is deceptively agreeable at present. A lovely villages that should drink well after 6 to 8 years of bottle age. Outstanding Top value. Burghound.

Winemaker's Notes:

"Very pale, green-tinged color. Captivating high-pitched aromas of lavender, herbs and dusty stone. Rich on entry, giving a dense, fine-grained, almost sweet impression, then surprising acidity and minerality enliven the middle palate. The finish conveys a slightly tannic impression but remains smooth and suave, not to mention very long. This classy Chevalier will need time to express itself...94" IWC 09/11
