Shy and a bit spicy on the nose. Slow to emerge smoke, earth and rhubarb notes lend this a less ripe and slight chunky tone. Soft and bright in the mouth, this is rather lacy and pure with red berry fruit. It is a bit on the simple side, but as balanced and fresh as this is, it is attractive. 88 pts

90-93 Points "Deep red. Reticent aromas of black cherry and licorice. Quite ripe yet delicate on the palate, with good backbone to the juicy flavors of blackberry, herbs, spices and flowers. Suave and nicely delineated but not particularly expressive today. No shortage of energy here, but this will also need patience." In 2009 this blends 12 different Beaune 1ers to create a wine with a very ripe yet high-toned red and blue pinot fruit nose that is in keeping with the equally ripe, supple, round and rather forward flavors that possess a silky mid-palate and fine le... Good deep red. Reticent slightly reduced nose offers licorice wild herbs crushed stone and mint. Tight imploded blackberry and licorice flavors show a light touch. Lovely fruit here but not at all open-knit. Finishes with strong earthy energy and minerality a bit like the Corton. Stephen Tanzers IWC.

This is very ripe indeed even a bit jammy (but not Porto-like) with surprisingly good freshness given the elevated level of ripeness. The seductively-textured flavors possess excellent volume and are extremely rich before culminating in a suave and rather round finish that coats the mouth with firm tannins and plenty of buffering sap. This is riper than I personally prefer but there is no heaviness and solid balance. Burghound.

Winemaker's Notes:

"Very pale, green-tinged color. Captivating high-pitched aromas of lavender, herbs and dusty stone. Rich on entry, giving a dense, fine-grained, almost sweet impression, then surprising acidity and minerality enliven the middle palate. The finish conveys a slightly tannic impression but remains smooth and suave, not to mention very long. This classy Chevalier will need time to express itself...94" IWC 09/11
