Bouchard Pere & Fils La Romanee(2003)

Deep red. Pungently perfumed, noble aromas of black raspberry, cocoa powder and graphite. Highly concentrated and chewy with extract; this wine penetrating minerality gives it terrific cut and clarity, even if it's rather ungiving at this early stage. Finishes very long, subtle and backward.
Super ripe, spicy and sexy black fruit aromas that are neither surmature nor roasted have nuances of mocha, tobacco, anise and clove framed by a background touch of oak toast merge into extract of pinot flavors that coat the mouth and are unbelievably complex and quite fine given the general character of the vintage. This is an exciting and ageworthy wine with that "wow" factor, crafted in a very ripe but not jammy or over-the-top style.

Full red-ruby. Superripe but sappy aromas of black raspberry, minerals and white and black pepper. Wonderfully concentrated and vibrant, with great sweetness buffered by mineral lift. Exotic notes of pineapple and ginger add complexity. As superripe as this is, it avoids the roasted side of the vintage. Finishes with compelling sap and length.
