Shy and a bit spicy on the nose. Slow to emerge smoke, earth and rhubarb notes lend this a less ripe and slight chunky tone. Soft and bright in the mouth, this is rather lacy and pure with red berry fruit. It is a bit on the simple side, but as balanced and fresh as this is, it is attractive. 88 pts
Mean and austere on the nose with some raw oak, mint and light meaty notes. On the palate, this was a touch soft and chewy with some mineral earth notes and herbal nuances. Not much is going on here, though the finish does show some lingering bitter tannins. 85 pts
This opens sappy and sweet with oak to the fore and a background of licorice spice. There is a deep, roast meat, veal reduction edge to the fruit and high tones of cola and floral tones. In the mouth this is bright with a bit of an extracted feel. Simple cherry and cranberry fruit is presented in a modernish package of clumsy tannins and elevated alcohol that yields an inelegant whole though the finish does offer a pleasant medicinal note. 86pts
Sweet and sappy on the nose with very spicy fruit. Still a bit rigid in the mouth with good acids and just a touch of tannin sticking out. Still youthful but not particularly exciting. 87pts
Nice bottle sweetness and limestone minerality here with a gamy, smoky edge to the fading fruit. Very friendly in the mouth with nice freshness and fine balance. Gently sweet and still surprisingly vibrant. A pleasant surprise 88pts

Rich bubblegum fruit, sweet cinnamon and plum. Some nice cherry cola fruit on the palate but overall seemed lacking in acid balance and a bit flabby.

Brothers Antonio and Paolo Sperone own and manage this small family estate in the Piedmont. Having already discovered their extremely good, value-priced Barolo, we had to try their Pinot Noir when we heard about it. And we were very impressed. Not just because it is a textbook example of beautifully balanced, cool-climate grown Pinot Noir, but because the price was unheard of for a wine of this quality. Piedmont is a very similar micro-climate to Burgundy and this Pinot shows classic characteristics of black cherry and strawberry fruit with bright acidity, earthy nuances and lively tannins. It's aged six months in oak barrels and shows a marked complexity. This is one you've got to try!

Here the cool airy and restrained nose displays notes of black pinot fruit stone and plenty of Vosne style spice. The classy and sophisticated medium-bodied flavors possess plenty of minerality as well as very fine if firm tannins that coat the palate on the well-delineated finish. A classic Beaux Monts of refinement and understatement. - Comments: Outstanding Burghound.
(25% vendange entier; 60% new oak): Bright dark red. Deep but reticent nose hints at licorice and underbrush. Then surprisingly layered and creamy in the mouth with cherry and redcurrant fruit complemented by dark Belgian chocolate and licorice. No easy sweetness here but plenty rich. Finishes with suave fine-grained tannins and some chocolatey oak that will take time to harmonize with the wine. This fruit and the Clos de Beze were picked on the first two days of October. At present ...there are notes of reduction yet the nose seems fresh and ripe anyway. The cool restrained and mineral-driven flavors possess good volume before terminating in a linear and persistent finish... Burghound.
The lovely 2010 Petits Monts from Domaine Georges Nokllat was raised in fifty percent new oak and was showing quite well at the time of my visit in March wafting from the glass in a complex blend of red and black cherries coffee bean dark soil tones woodsmoke a nice touch of fresh nutmeg and plenty of spicy new oak. On the palate the wine is deep fullish and very pure on the attack with impressive minerality fine mid-palate depth and a very long ripely tannic and tangy finish. Today the wine is a bit marked by its wood on the backend but there is plenty of stuffing to eventually absorb these wood tannins and the wine should be excellent with eight to ten years of bottle age. There are eight barrels of Petits Monts in the cellars in 2010- four of which were new. A very good example of this great terroir. 2019-2040+. 91+. John Gilman.
