Bouchard Aine et Fils Reserve du Conseiller Pinot Noir

Member Review by duncan 906:

This wine was on offer at my local supermarket for a mere five pounds so I bought it.Bouchard Aine et fils is a well known firm of negociants based in an eighteenth century mansion called the Hotel de Conseiller du Roy in Beaune,a picture of which appears on all their wine bottles. This wine, however,is not a Burgundy but it comes from the South of France and does not have an AOC but is merely a 'Vin de France'.I drank it the other day with my dinner of roast beef and I thought it a pleasant enough wine and reasonable value for money.I do feel though that it does not acheive the standards of a red Burgundy in spite of using the same Pinot Noir grape. The taste is drier,it is nowhere near as subtle and the fruit is more intense almost like cherries
