As for the 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape a la Gloire de Mon Grandpere, this wine has a classic Grenache nose of kirsch liqueur, licorice, spice box, and some resiny notes. It is deep, rich, moderately ruby in color, but has loads of glycerin and, I suspect, the highest alcohol level of this trio. It should be the easiest to drink young, yet seemingly has 12-14 years of aging potential ahead of it.

The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape A La Gloire de Mon Grandpere is a blend of 98% Grenache and 2% Cinsault and other varieties (from 60- to 80-year-old vines), explosive aromas of plums, licorice, figs, black cherries, raspberries, and loamy, resiny notes jump from the glass. Full-bodied with tremendous seductive powers in its level of glycerin and rich, broad, expansive fruit, it is a wine without make-up so to speak since it is aged in old wood foudres as well as tanks and a handful of demi-muids. Drink this beautifully textured, sumptuous 2007 over the next 12-15 years.

Winemaker's Notes:

92 points Rhone Report: A traditional, structured wine, the 2007 Bosquet des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape offers up complex aromatics of dark, mineral laced fruit, garrigue, herbs and crushed stone. The palate shows nice density to go with a clean, precise and structured character. This improved in the glass and is an excellent wine to drink over the coming 10 to 12 years. (Aug 2009)
