Boscarelli Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2011

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

The nose here is a bit on the subtle side with a slightly medicinal edge to the candied blackberry fruit with hints of burnt beef fat. On the palate this offers up crisp tannins in a light, bright, energetic feeling medium bodied wine that is very precisely balanced. The fruit is wonderfully fresh with a wild berry edge that tightens up admirably on the finish yet remains elegant and unforced. It’s light on its feet and holds it’s 14% alcohol effortlessly. Lovely wine. 92pts

The blend is approx. 90% Sangiovese, 10% Canaiolo, Mammolo and Colorino (Tuscanys own, classic complements to the former), from the superb Cervognano cru. The resulting Nobile is structured, complex, extremely cellar-worthy: brilliant, deep ruby with garnet hues, the bouquet recalls plums and blueberries in youth, evolving to iris and violets; fruity, full, firm, elegant and persistent palate.Deep ruby w/garnet hues, lovely nose of dried herbs, leather, earth, vanillin, violets, iris, strawberry jam & plenty of plummy, blueberry, flavorful fruit on a palate made supple & appealing by the silky tannins & black cherry finish. - Winery

The 2009 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is gorgeous in this vintage. Firm yet well-integrated tannins support an expressive core of sweet red fruit in this beautifully delineated, energetic Vino Nobile. The 2009 impresses for its energy and class. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2021. This rich, fruity red boasts plum, black cherry and black tea flavors. Backed by moderate tannins, ending with tobacco and dried cherry notes. Drink now through 2016. 3,500 cases made. -BS (13.5% alcohol): Full medium ruby. Red cherry, licorice, menthol and spicy oak on the nose, along with a rooty nuance. Enters supple, suave and fine-grained, but its sweet flavors of red cherry and licorice show a mounting austerity. Not especially complex--and its tannins shut down the finish. Id wait a year or two before pulling the cork. ** SOLD OUT **

Boscarelli Vino Nobile is 90 percent Sangiovese with Canaiolo, Mammolo and Colorino rounding out the mix. Classically styled, with plum and violet aromatics and deep rustic structure.
