Borsao Garnacha 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

Altovinum Evodia Old Vine Garnacha offers a lovely perfume of spice box, mineral, and wild cherry. This perfectly balanced mix of flavors lends itself to an intensely fruity wine with loads of taste, a smooth texture, and a pure, fruit-filled finish. Pairs well with white and red meats roasted or grilled, big game, meat casseroles and stews, complex sauces, foie gras and legumes or blue and cured cheeses. 805109990012

Although the history of the city of Borja takes us back to the beginnings of the Paleolithic period, it wasn’t until the 4th century before Christ, in the heart of the Celtiberian period, when thanks to classical and numismatic written sources the name of this village came to light: Bursao. With the passing through Bursao of different civilizations like the Romans, Visigothic Hispania and the Muslims we have inherited architectural remains and above all, the natural inclination of its people towards agriculture and more particularly viniculture. Of equal importance was the implementation of artisanal techniques that today endure as living proof of the cultural richness of the former Bursao today known as Borja. During the I and II centuries, before our time, it used to mint bronze coins, ases and dividers as a symbol of its autonomy. On the obverse of the as we can see a celtiberian rider armed with a lance, riding on the writing of the name of the city in the native alphabet. The emblem adopted by the winery as a sign of identity. Read less

Nice, bright Spanish garnacha with nice dark fruit and rhubarb, lively acidity and a decent finish. This is a very food friendly wine with an excellent quality to price ratio.

A little light for my liking. Better suited for those who are into the less robust reds. Still a decent buy for the price.

Glass-staining ruby. Aromas of blackberry, boysenberry, smoky minerals and white pepper, with a suggestion of candied rose. Supple on entry, then firmer in the mid-palate, with vibrant flavors of black and blue fruits and floral pastilles.   Finishes with powerful blue fruit and spice notes and very good length.

Sexy, high-pitched aromas of strawberry preserves, black raspberry, minerals and pungent flowers. Concentrated but not at all heavy; sweet raspberry and blackberry flavors are lifted by a hint of violet.

This Eric Solomon custom cuvee is made from a high-altitude vineyard planted in schist and slate soils. Composed of 100% tank-aged Garnacha, it is a mineral-laced, elegant, finesse-styled effort displaying plenty of raspberry, sweet and sour cherry notes intermixed with a distinctive minerality. Drink it over the next 2–3 years.

Mittellanger Abgang.
