Food Pairings for Borsao Garnacha
2009 Evodia (Altovinum Evodia Garnacha Old Vines - Calatayud, central Spain, 100% garnacha ). A value wine at $8. Some nice peppery fruit with a pleasant combination of sweetness and tartness . Needs some air (88pts)
This wine really opened up for me about a day after I opened it. Bold raspberry and strawberry flavors played with pleasantly smooth (and mild) tannins on my tongue. I also detected something floral, like rose or violet. Well worth the money spent.
Sweet as it hits your lips, spicy as it goes down...
I think this a fantastic wine. One of my favs.
External Reviews for Borsao Garnacha
Sexy, high-pitched aromas of strawberry preserves, black raspberry, minerals and pungent flowers. Concentrated but not at all heavy; sweet raspberry and blackberry flavors are lifted by a hint of violet. Very suave, especially at this price - According to the International Wine Cellar
IWC 90pts. - According to the Wine Advocate: There are 20,000 cases of the 2009 Evodia, a 100% tank-aged Garnacha produced from old vines. Dark ruby-colored, it gives up an expressive nose of fragrant cherry blossom and cassis. Racy on the palate with plenty of juicy fruit, this is a surprisingly substantial, pleasure-bent effort that sells for a song. Drink it over the next 2-3 years. According to the International Wine Cellar: Sexy, high-pitched aromas of strawberry preserves, black raspberry, minerals and pungent flowers. Concentrated but not at all heavy; sweet raspberry and blackberry flavors are lifted by a hint of violet. Very suave, especially at this price; finishes with silky tannins and excellent clarity. No jamminess here, which is pretty rare for inexpensive garnacha. These vines are reportedly planted at 850 to 1,100 meters altitude on slate and are more than 100 years old.
Altovinum's 2010 Evodia is 100% Garnacha sourced from the highest elevation vineyards of Garnacha of any DO in Spain. It offers up a slightly exotic nose of earthy minerality, mocha, black cherry, and black raspberry. Savory, concentrated, and with a forward personality, this great value will deliver pleasure over the next 3-4 years.
The garnet-colored 2007 Evodia is 100% Garnacha from vines planted on pure slate soils. The wine was fermented and aged in concrete vats. The nose delivers fragrant minerals and black cherries leading to a sweetly-fruited, smooth-textured, easy-going wine that lacks only complexity. For this price does it matter? Drink it over the next four years.
The Evodia Garnacha is a shining star in the under $10 red category! A joint project among famed importer Eric Solomon, Jean Marc Lafage and Yolanda Diaz, designed to compete with the ever-popular Las Rocas. Great fruit and low acidity - the perfect red to serve with white fish. Lush black fruit and subtle spices - this wine practically melts in your mouth. Drink this all year round! Serve with a slight chill all summer long with fish and vegetable dishes, during the fall with turkey, during the winter with stews and in the spring with ham.
Inky purple. Very fresh, straightforward aromas of raspberry and blackberry, plus a hint of cracked pepper. Juicy and tannin-free, with spicy red and dark berry flavors and gentle mineral lift. Easy to drink and a superb value, with good finishing bite.
Bright ruby. Fresh strawberry and raspberry aromas are deepened by notes of licorice, black tea and pungent herbs. Supple in texture, offering sweet red fruit flavors and showing no rough edges. A smoky note comes up with air, adding complexity to a nicely persistent, red berry-dominated finish. Extremely easy to drink, and offering excellent depth and clarity for the money.
89 Points - Wine EnthusiastA delicious wine and very much the model for value in Spanish Garnacha. That this has 25per Tempranillo only seems to make it better; the nose is sweet but full and plummy.
