Rating: 85/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the November 2010 issue. Mix a touch of herbs with a bare bones scent of cherries and you will get the aroma of this somewhat underfilled effort. To its credit, it is clean and slightly firm in balance, but, while it has solid underlying structure, it could use some additional meat on its frame.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Further bottle aging can improve this wine.

Ultra-fruity, offing waves of ripe black cherries, plums, currants and cola, accented with sweet, vanilla-scented oak. Good and dry, with rich tannins, but would benefit from greater restraint and subtlety. Drink now.

Our blend for the vintage layers Merlot with Syrah, Petite Sirah and Cabernet Sauvignon, bringing great depth and complexity to the wine. Distinctive tannins will soften with age, and you’ll find the wine to be rich and dry, with good fruit featuring blackberry, cherry and touches of herbs, with notes of cedar

Fairly crisp, with boysenberry, herbal and chocolate flavors. Drink now through 2002.

Bonterra Merlot 2006 750ML

With Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Sirah, Syrah and Grenache blended in, this red wine is more like one of those old-fashioned field blends than a pure Merlot. It has a melange of spicy fruit flavors, with nuances of dried herbs, and the finish is sweet.

Winemaker's Notes:

A premier example of organic viticulture. Rich full plum nose, red cherry laced with chocolate, drinkable now with slight jammy notes. Medium to full spicy tannins with a touch of wood. The organically grown Bonterra Merlot is a medium bodied red that is ripe and supple on the palate.
