Bonterra Syrah Organically Grown Grapes Mendocino County 2007
Wine Tasting Notes Our Syrah vineyards, including the newer biodynamically-farmed Butler Ranch, which ranges upwards to 1,600 feet above sea level, are quite young, just teasing their prime growing years. You can see youth well-served in the wine's brilliant crimson color and intense, heady aromas of black cherry and blackberries before giving way to bitter-sweet, vanilla chocolate. The tannins are velvety smooth and supple. The oak is wonderfully integrated, with complementary flavors of white pepper and toasty oak spice. This is a distinctive Bonterra Syrah, more fruit-forward than previous vintages, more distinctive and unique.
We've been farming organically since 1987. Because it's our belief that organic grapes make better wine.
A nice bright red robe with a typical cherry cola nose and just a whiff of oak. More rich cherry, a touch of Devonshire Cream, and a little cola coats the palate going down. Smooth, slightly warm medium finish is perfect for drinking now or over the next 1-2 years. Good value.
Great wine with a fresh finish. Would definitely purchase again.

Rating: 86/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the November 2010 issue. If starting out well enough with moderately rich aromas of ripe berries, sweet smoke and vague hints of fresh pencil shavings, this wine gets a touch toothy and overly firm on the palate, and its tangy, close-to-souring acids wind up getting the best of its otherwise likeable fruit.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Further bottle aging can improve this wine.
Rating: 85/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the November 2010 issue. If not a wine given to excessive ripeness, this blunt, vaguely chocolaty effort is a bit heavy footed and wants for a bit of brightness and drive. It falls off to dryness fairly quickly, and the makings for beauty with age are nowhere to be found.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Cellar for future drinking. Wine will improve with bottle aging.
