Bonny Doon Vineyard Syrah Central Coast le Pousseur 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

We continue to refine our work in the cellar. We used a slightly smaller percentage of whole clusters in this vintage's fermentations, moderating the wintergreen/smoked meat notes. We continue to pay homage to the spice and floral aspects of syrah, which are frequently dismissed in favor of its capacity to second as an adjunct to the conscientious motorist's tool kit - fruit-flavored insurance against viscosity AND thermal breakdown. This vintage seems our most nuanced rendition, with spice, cassis and pepper character contributed by Bien Nacido Vineyard and fleshy texture and violet scented qualities from the Chequera Vineyard.

Minerally cherry on the nose, with a smoky, spice and oak on the tongue. No fruit at all. Didn't care for this one.

Tried this wine and didn't care for it very much. Corked it and kept overnight in the cooler. The second night it was a completely different wine. It was very good. Surprisingly it paired fantastically with a black bean dish that had fresh lime, chili powder, and scallions. Perfect match!!!
