Bonny Doon Vineyard Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato Passito Ferraris 2005
This is a classic Bonny Doon wine. How might one improve upon the delicious aromatic purity of Muscat canelli-the very essence of the Muscat grape? Very simply, by the addition of Muscats Orange, Greco and most recently, Giallo, from Bonny Doon's own vineyard in Soledad. In addition to the somewhat typical aromas of cinnamon and clove and jasmine, there are more exotic subtle citrus undercurrents of tangerine, orange blossom and Meyer lemon from the aforesaid. Very typical wine of the ice box with a slightly more citrusy twist.
Sweet acacia and honeysuckle nose. Sugary aromas. Good acidity with a taste of green apples. Nice finish.
Nice dessert wine, reminiscent of port in its sweetness but lighter in texture and less syrupy. Aromas of roses and raspberries, this tastes a lot like a still brachetto d'aqui. Great wit chocolate dishes. Made by Luca Ferraris and only labeled and sold by Bonny Doon.
I'm not much on sweet wines, but this dessert wine is delicious without tasting sugar-fortified like so many others. I'd highly recommend it for anyone who loves a sweet wine, and for those newcomers who can't yet handle anything dry.
