Bonny Doon Vineyard Rosé Blend California Vin Gris de Cigare 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

We continue our efforts to perfect this gris du coeur by insinuating a significant dollop of white wine - principally Grenache blanc - into our typical blend of southern Rhône red varieties, a protocol initiated with the 2003 vintage. Though not a technique practiced widely in Vin Gris' spiritual homeland of Provence, we find the addition of rich white wine adds some incremental gravity and seriousness without jeopardizing the final blend's vivacious deliciousness - a quality critical in the perfect aperitif, or if one wishes to wash down a Salade Niçoise under the hot sun of St. Tropez. 2006 was harmonious overall and as a result we find deliciously bright, filigreed fruit here - pale cherry, strawberry and a hint of green guava. The botanical, Provençal herb notes are in evidence adding a savory note reminiscent of wild hillside plantings: lavender, rosemary and mountain sage

Crisp and steely, very dry with delicate cherry flavors. The wine is a light marachino cherry color. Its made with a lot of batonage (lots of time in contact with the lees, and the juice is circulated while this occurs to maximize contact) - this results in a creamy wine.
