Bond Red Bordeaux Blend Napa Valley Quella 2006
'Top 100 Wines of 2010' and 94 points Wine & Spirits: From a steep, nine-acre vineyard in the eastern hills of the Napa Valley, this is the first vintage of Quella. The soil includes river rock mixed with volcanic tuff, producing an expression that's distinctly different from Pluribus. What's similar is the way the flavors emanate from the structure, initially severe in its tannins, with a perfumed scent of roses and violets brightening their earthy, dusty blackness. There's a sense of restrained ripeness that's unusual in this part of the valley, with scents of sour cherry and cranberry following a beautiful arc of flavor. There's also a resonant umami character, like the flavor of grilled hedgehog mushrooms. This is vinous and fresh, with a clarity and surety to its structure that predicts a long life ahead. (Dec 2009)

The 2008 Quella is a dark, brooding wine loaded with super-ripe dark black fruit, smoke, tar and licorice. It is a seriously intense wine that will require bottle age. This is an especially authoritative wine from Bond. Anticipated maturity: 2014andndash;2028.
Full ruby-red color. Very ripe aromas of raspberry, licorice and menthol; this too struck me as claret-like. Sweet and refined in the mouth, already showing superb harmony to its raspberry, redcurrant and graphite flavors. Finishes with suave tannins and outstanding length. Like the Melbury, this seems balanced to give early pleasure but should have no trouble lasting for 15 to 20 years in bottle. (Incidentally, pHs here were average in 2008 but acids a bit higher, said director of winegrowing Bob Levy, who offered the opinion that 2008 was a bit like 2005 in style.)
Firm and structured, with loamy earth, mocha and espresso, this is ripe and lively, with currant, blueberry and wild berry notes that are pleasingly subtle and detailed. Even more expansive and syrupy on the finish. Best from 2012 through 2022.
The 2006 Quella is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, revealing chocolaty espresso notes, medium to full body, a slightly more streamlined style than the other wines, with a Margaux-like finesse and elegance. This is an attractive, savory, but reserved wine re... Robert Parker. A Proprietary Blend wine from California in USA. 2006 Bond (Harlan) Quella 750ml
92 Points "The newest entry into these single-vineyard wines (which are virtually all 100% Cabernet Sauvignon) is the 2006 Quella. Dense purple, this wine comes across as the most austere of any of these wines. This dense, rich, elegant wine displays impressive notes of espresso roast intermixed with blackberry and floral-infused blue fruits, but in the finish the tannins kick in, and the wine seems closed and in need of considerable aging. I would sit on this for a good half dozen years, and drink it over the following two decades." Wine Advocate, #186 Dec 2009, Robert Parker
