Bollinger la Grande Annee 2004
Its delicate blush and old gold colours are a sign of maturity and of Bollinger’s winemaking skills. Its Aromas are a testimony to the barrels it aged in: toasted bread and brandied fruit. Notes of exotic spices, rhubarb and stone fruit. Palate is powerful yet soft with remarkable structure and length. - Winemakers notes
(Past tasting 3 Apr 2014) Fine beads. Melony nose. Savoury!
mmmm, well integrated at almost 8 years old with huge biscuity and oaky flavours, but not overwhelming and a lot of nuance. I drank this on 01/01/2008 and I'm still tasting it the day after.
A superb wine, created by Bollinger, there are only 4000 bottles of this created for each year they produce. A superb Pinot Noir, smooth with heavy chocolate and vanilla notes on the nose. A slight tannin finish, which got better with breathing, and I would suspect that you could lay this wine down for a good few years yet, and it would only get better.
Three and a half glasses
Power but wonderful elegance too
Complex and aromatic on the nose! Roasted nuts, coffee and Thyme aromas. I couldn't resist to take a mouthful of it and my senses awaken once again to a big and powerful palate, yet with an incredibly well balanced acidity. Medium to full bodied, it was fresh, sophisticated and round. Full of energy with a beautiful lingering finish that lasted for a long long time. Impressive work from Bollinger. No much on the nose yet. Savoury nose. Really quite introvert crystalline with masses of acidity. Very youthful indeed. 17+/20 Jancis Robinson.
A great Vintage Champagne from the esteemed house of Bollinger, long a favorite of the Royal Family of England. This 2004 reach a pinnacle with 95+ scores including 96 from Wine Enthusiast Magazine and 95 from Antonio Galloni who said "Bollinger's 2004 Brut La Grand Année is a beautiful wine with a lot of vintage character, but the style is a bit less oxidative than Bollinger fans are likely to expect. Pears, hazelnuts, spices and crushed rocks all flow through to the tense, vibrant finish. It will be interesting to see if the 2004 puts on weight in the bottle, as so many wines from this vintage have. Today, it is bright, linear and quite pretty. Green apples, pears and flowers all add lift on the close." Extremely Limited!!!
A gorgeously complex pure and refined nose of delicate red berry fruit yeast and brioche aromas introduce delicious fresh and strikingly intense flavors that are supported by an extravagant mousse that imparts a real sense of vibrancy to the dry yeasty and again impressively complex finish. This is a really impressive rosé that is drinking well now though depending on your taste preferences could also just as easily be held for another 5 to 10 years. Burghound.
