Pinot Noir predominates, a demanding grape variety with an intense character which forms the backbone of the Bollinger style. Continuity of style is ensured by an exceptional collection of over 600,000 reserve magnums, making Bollinger the only champagne House with such a wide and precise palette of aromas for their blends.   As a guarantee of supreme quality, the best crus are vinified in wood thanks to a stock of 3,000 small, aged casks. The House lets its wines mature for twice as long as the appellation requirement. This is not out of vanity, but because a great wine needs the luxury of time to develop its full character. mmmm, well integrated at almost 8 years old with huge biscuity and oaky flavours, but not overwhelming and a lot of nuance. I drank this on 01/01/2008 and I'm still tasting it the day after.

Detailed flavors of dried berry, tobacco and spice complement the vibrant structure in this Champagne. Shows finesse and persistence, with a silky mousse. The aftertaste hints at toast and spice. Drink now through 2020.

The salmon-colored 1999 La Grande Année Rosé is a pretty Champagne that offers terrific balance in its expansive, sweet core of fruit and expressive aromatics. The warm, opulent quality of the vintage comes through in the wine’s soft, caressing texture. As outstanding as this wine is, it doesn’t quite have the complexity I had hoped for. That may come with further cellaring, only time will tell. The 1999 La Grande Annee Rose is composed of 65% Pinot Noir and 35% Chardonnay, with 7% of still Ay Pinot, all first pressing juice. 82% of the fruit came from grand cru vineyards while 18% came from premier cru sites. The dosage was 7–9 grams and this bottle was disgorged in March 2008. Anticipated maturity: 2008–2014.

A very special bottling from the historic Bollinger house. This rosé is made only in perfectly ripe vintages. Red wine from the La Côte au Enfants plot in Aÿ is added to blend to create this true expression of terroir.

($125; disgorged December, 2006) Pale straw. Vibrant, exotically perfumed bouquet evokes fresh pear and nectarine, with a wild spicecake quality adding complexity. Cinnamon-accented orchard fruit flavors are strikingly precise and palate-coating. Del... Stephen Tanzers IWC. A Champagne Blend wine from Champagne in France. 1999 Bollinger Grande Annee 750ml

Wine Tasting NotesLa Grande Annee is the Prestige Cuvee of Champagne Bollinger. It is only produced when exceptional quality harvests occur, and is the expression of Bollinger's know-how. More than the illustration of the vintage particularity, La Grande Annee is the result of the Bollinger style, of its exceptional terroir and traditional wine making techniques. La Grande Annee develops a beautiful rounded structure and combines rich, complex and intense aromas.
