What to Expect

Champagne is specifically a sparkling wine made in the Champagne region of France; every other sparkling is simply that, sparkling wine. Made to be aged for a few to many years, in many languages "Champagne" is synonymous with "party". When young, Champagne exhibits the fresh fruit tones of its "cepage", or blend. Usually based on a blend the features either Chardonnay or Pinot Noir as its main ingredient, Champagne's fruit can range from citrusy to orchard fruits and even red berries. The wine gains distinct yeasty notes from its secondary fermentation, the one that adds the fizz, which is typically described as recalling brioche or bread. As it ages Champagne tends to lose its obvious fruit, which is replaced by subtle nutty tones and subdued elements of dried fruits.

Reviews

Rating: 4/5 - As reviewed by Decanter This rosé was full of wonderful, heady raspberry and white chocolate aromas, making it quite decadent in its fullness. The colour was very pink, a full expression of its Pinot content. It was lighter on depth than expected, but had plenty of chewy fruitand lots of acidity. It was fruity rather than creamy on the palate. Sadly it did not quite stand up to the full-flavoured dessert of apple tart and blackberry ice-cream.

Rating: 4/5 - As reviewed by Decanter Full of lovely young yeasty flavours, and a very vibrant acidity with a hit of citrus freshness. Still rather closed on the nose, but give it time and it will become a powerhouse of a wine.

At this stage extremely youthful. This wine desperately needs more time in bottle, and at this stage the nose is rather facile, even tarty.
