Bogle Vineyards Zinfandel California Old Vine 2009
Editorial Reviews for Bogle Vineyards Zinfandel California Old Vine
Jammy on the nose and slightly peppery. Spice and dried woodsy notes accent the tarry, slightly dried plummy fruit, topped with toasted sawdust. Nicely balanced in the mouth and lighter bodied that the nose suggests. This is a bit angular and dry to the point of slight bitterness, but the fruit is bright if low in the mouth with a stewed red fruit quality. Really well balanced which makes this surprisingly easy to dink. Not complex with pleasant flavors, but the texture is what people must love. The finish is also fairly surprising, showing a simple oak red fruit quality with good length. 85pts
big, bold, and smooth. a little spicy, juicy red fruit combined with dark berry jam components with nice lingering length on the palate.
Ahh Bogle, I love how you never disappoint...and impress with your Zin! A fairly heavy one you are, with some smokiness accented by a very slight medicinal note. I can certainly drink you up on your own but would love you with a lovely pork tenderloin
A consistently dependable standby. This vintage doesn't disappoint with its bang-for-buckness. Blackberry and dark cherry flavors. Pleasantly medicinal (Dr. Pepper), decent acid balance and spice.
My Rating: 89. This wine has a medium body with plenty of fruit .The nose is very long with nice spicy fruit aromas. For the Price at Bj's of $ 9.- a good buy
After first opening this wine was good, but had an almost extreme floral quality (violets?-not sure) that was not present in the nose, but sort of dominated the other flavors in the mouth. After an hour or two the floral quality diminished on the tongue but became slightly present in the nose. then tended to fade out altogether as time went on, which I considered to be a good thing, for it was interesting, but kind of distracting. At the end of the first night, and especially the second day, this wine settled down to become an incredibly smooth and enjoyable wine to drink. Blackberries and black cherry nose and flavors, plus a great balance of dry with just a touch of sweetness. Still kind of big and bold in a way, but smooth in others (low key in spice and brambliness compared to some Zins) This wasn't the Zin experience I was searching for, but this found me, and introduced me to a very drinkable and pleasant wine, once it was opened for a while, anyway. I give my kudos to Bogle, because every Bogle wine I have tasted I have liked
2009: excellent upon first opening, lost quality by next day. For 2010 vintage: luscious, spicy, excellent drink alone wine.
Excellent blended wine. Pepper and currant tones. Paired with a cheese baked baguette. Highly recommend for the price.

Notes of ripe berries and nutmeg follow, while touches of black pepper and subtle spicy oak compliment the fruit. Full-bodied, the mouthfeel is rounded out and finished with earthy notes and soft tannins.
In the early 1900s, Zinfandel vines were planted in California. Many of these vineyards continues to produce a small quantity of rich, flavorful fruit. The older the vines are, the richer and more complex the wines produced are. This quintessential American wine can be enjoyed with beef stew or chili or perhaps with your Thanksgiving turkey.
The Zinfandel crop of 1998 was marked by some of the lightest yields seen in recent years. Blackberry, clove and pepper are the trademark characters apparent in this vintage. However, a subtle violet aroma lingers in the background. Intensity, weight and concentration make this a wine for fans of serious Zinfandel.
Roasted black cherry, dried wild berry, smoke and chewy mocha flavors are framed by lively acid and tannins. A very good value. Drink now through 2006.
This supple and mouth-filling vintage leads with juicy blueberry and ripe blackberry fruit. Black pepper and hints of chocolate notes integrate well with this soft, plush body. Subtle hints of spicy oak and pipe tobacco create structure, allowing this wine to stand up to a variety of fare.
Excellent value, with currant, wild berry and dried raspberry flavors that pick up vanilla, cedar and tangy structure on the finish. Drink now through 2006.
Scents of sun-warmed, wild raspberries bubble up to the surface in your first impression of the Zinfandel. Notes of ripe berries and nutmeg follow, while touches of black pepper and subtle spicy oak compliment the fruit. Full-bodied, the mouthfeel is rounded out and finished with earthy notes and soft tannins. - Winery
