Bogle Vineyards Red Blend California Phantom 2009
Phantom has reappeared…Bogle’s heady apparition of fierce berry and sensual spice returns to haunt wine lovers. Marked by a bright entry, a full-bodied mid palate and a firm finish, this wine showcases the best of these three unique varietals. Rich black raspberries and briary boysenberries vividly surround the nose and palate, while the decadence of cocoa-dusted pomegranate is enticingly complex. Touches of juniper, cedar and black pepper edge toward the full-bodied fruit, charming you to take another sip. Over two years in 1, 2 and 3 year old American oak capture and concentrate the essence of the Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Mourvedre, creating yet another luscious and intense red wine, impossible to ignore. Though the wine is remarkable now, age in the bottle will only integrate these distinct varietals more. Welcome the winery ghost into your home again with this latest vintage, and enjoy with full-flavored and hearty meals…before it vanishes.
Editorial Reviews for Bogle Vineyards Red Blend California Phantom
Zinfandel 52% - Petite Sirah 46% - Mourvèdre 2% Vanilla and blackberry jam greet the nose in a very direct way followed by hints of herb and carob along with sweet roasted plum fruit. This is soft and mouth coating with fine grained wood tannins that work their way into the crevasses of one’s mouth. A bit fat and fairly fruit with rich black cherry, black plum, and brown sugar flavors on the palate that give way to toasty, vanilla and cinnamon laced stewed cherry fruit on the moderately long and slightly peppery finish. 87pts

Yum. This vintage opened very quickly to be well-balanced, bold with good bursts of fruit. (touted as best red blend under $20 when was tasted at 4 Flights Wine Boutique tonight and I'm not arguing despite the number of under $20 reds I have liked)
