This is a big, full-bodied blend of dark, jammy berries and black pepper with subtle spice notes and an oaky finish. The wine possesses a high tannin level (relatively acidic), which suggests superior pairings with fatty foods, such as soft cheeses, lamb shanks and sausages.
The best of the Bogle wines that I have tasted, somewhat spicy and dry. Much better than their Cabs or Merlots. Good for an everyday wine.
For 12 bucks? Hell yeah! Smooth; not too tannin-y; effin' delicious for the price. I buy this at my local corner store. Yum.
Tremendously fruity, with huge berries both red and black, mace, and cinnamon on the nose and the palate. Finishes with wet rock and petrol, and surprisingly light tannins. Would be excellent with duck, rare steak, and smoked foods.
rating 88. This is a smooth very well balance wine with not toomuch fruit that normally zinfandels exibit. The nose is well balance but not very pronouced. Fine tannins , very elegant Blend.
Loved the past vintages and this does not disappoint - I want to wait another couple of months for the true test but here is my initial reaction - I tasted first and then let it sit in the fridge for 1 hour - that was the ticket - more pepper and spice than 2005 - I get lots of choc covered cherries, blueberries and mocha - smooth finish with a hint of choc candy - will be great 6 months from now!

Wine Tasting NotesHead-trained, dry farmed old vines are again the source for Bogles Old Vine Zinfandel. These gnarly old vines produce concentrated fruit of unsurpassed quality and intensity. This supple and mouth-filling vintage leads with juicy blueberry and ripe blackberry fruit. Black pepper and hints of chocolate notes integrate well with this soft, plush body. Subtle hints of spicy oak and pipe tobacco create structure, allowing this wine to stand up to a variety of fare. This is the perfect wine to pair with everything from rich sauces and unique dishes, to your favorite weeknight take-out.
Lots of old vine grapes went into the making of this Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Mourvedre blend. It's intensely fruity and spicy, a clean wine to wash down barbecue and burgers.
As everyone knows, "bogle" is synonymous with hobgoblin, bogeyman, and bugbear. The Bogle Phantom, despite having a somewhat redundant name, is a tight, focused blend, consisting mainly of Petite Sirah and old-vine Zinfandel, with a touch of Mourvèdre adding mystique.
