Bogle Vineyards Merlot California 2009
Concentrated and full-bodied, the 2009 Merlot is a study in contrasts. Subtle and silky, yet bright and intense, this deep red wine is multifaceted. Black raspberry and dark cherry greet the nose, while the brighter fruit of ripe summer plum dazzles the palate. The toast and spice of twelve months in American oak seamlessly integrate with the tannin structure of this wine, leaving a long, lingering finish, which is ready to drink now through 2014.

Woody and slightly herbal on the nose with a very chocolaty overtone and spicy, almost prune fruit. Soft on entry and slightly creamy, but this maintains some nice freshness in the mouth. Good clarity to the slightly sweet plummy and dried fruit flavors. There’s a nice touch of wood on the mid-palate, adding some spice and enough acidity to add a touch of lift on the back end. Leads to a slightly astringent, clean black cherry finish with lots of tobacco and cedar accents. 85pts

They don't advertise it but Bogle is organic and they are considered expert growers. They are the best wine in the $10 price bracket and beat most I've had at the 12-15 mark. The wine guy at Trader Joe's introduced me to it. It often sells for $15-$25 at restaurants in the area. Real cork, and in 20 bottles I havn't had a single cork taint from TCA, which is pleasing. A good friend shared the gift of his "house red" - Bogle Merlot. A surprisingly good wine for the price. Smooth and rich. Have not tried the other Bogle varieties.

Forward fruit, with good depth to the plum and tart black cherry flavors, and plenty of cedar, mocha and vanilla from toasty oak. Tannins are modest on the finish. Great value. Drink now through 2006.

Aromas of ripe cherries and cedar complement this perfectly balanced Merlot. On the palate, the bright cherry fruit and herbal tones lead beautifully into the complex finish: soft and silky, yet with ample tannins and spicy oak.
Except for a slightly rustic edge to the way the wine feels in the mouth, this is a spectacular success. It stands next to much more expensive Merlots proudly. Dry and smooth in tannins, the cherry, red currant and pepper flavors are outstanding.
