Bogle Pinot Noir Anderson 06 Pinot Noir Us-California 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

Bogle Sauvignon Blanc has the freshly zested limes spring off the nose, followed by leechee nut and a tiny bit of orange peel. The citrus follows through on the palate, tinged by hints of tropical pineapple. Lean and light, yet surprisingly full of flavor, the Bogle Sauvignon Blanc finishes with brisk acidity that makes your mouth water for more! Perfect accompaniment to a wide range of appetizers and light dishes, especially fish and shellfish, spring greens and fruit salsas.

Although the Bogle family has been farming since the mid-1800's, it was not until 1968 that the father and son team of Warren and Chris Bogle planted their first 20 acres of wine grapes in Clarksburg, California. In this small farming community nestled along the Sacramento River, the Bogle family's years of hard work have developed into an impressive grape growing operation, as well as a nationally acclaimed winery. Today Bogle Vineyards farms over 1,200 acres of wine grapes in the Delta region. While the winery was established ten years after the first grapes were planted, its success has grown tremendously along with the vineyards. The success of Bogle over the years is firmly rooted in one thing: the day-to-day involvement of the Bogle family in the hands-on effort to produce and promote quality wines. Patty Bogle became involved in the early years of the vineyards with her late husband Chris, when they planted fields together in the early 1970's. Patty took over operation of the winery in 1989 and has directed production to new and exciting heights. Patty's daughter Jody also contributes to the family business by being active in customer support, as well as running the wine club and handling all international sales. Patty's son Warren, named after the founder of Bogle Vineyards, is the sixth generation of the Bogle family to farm this fertile Delta region. Like his grandfather and father, Warren understands that in order to produce quality wines, you must first produce quality grapes. This tradition of respect for the land and the vines is crucial to the success of Bogle wines. The production of Bogle wine is influenced by this family tradition as well as the ever-changing trends in the wine industry. Since 1992, Bogle Winery has participated in the California Appellation Program. In this program, winemakers source fruit from some of the best vineyards in the state and blend them with Bogle's Estate Vineyards in Clarksburg, thus assuring that the wines benefit from many of the incredible grape growing regions of California. Each and every Bogle wine created is a unique and exciting blend with true varietal character and an approachable style. With their deep commitment to quality, the Bogle family wouldn't have it any other way. Read less

A bit spicy and leathery on the nose with hints of anise seed and black pepper along with a meaty edge to the blackberry and damson plum fruit. A nice blend of depth and lightness on the palate gives this an attractive mouthfeel with balanced flavors of oak, toast, some dried herb and nut tones all wrapped up in transparent dried cherry and raspberry fruit. This is fairly spicy with oak but the fruit does manage to keep the upper hand right through the moderately long, spicy and lightly peppery finish. Shows a bit of heat on the finish. 86pts

Leathery, a little hot and with some cocoa. More tangy.

Little earthy on the nose with a touch of raspberry. Decent tannin on the palate. Not a ton of grip, but most pinots are the same way. Not a fruit bomb by any means but there's just enough black cherry and raspberry to make it passable. Not the best pinot I've ever had, but for the price definitely a good QPR wine.

Dark plum color into the glass, with some long thick legs clinging to the glass. Nice deep earthy, woody aromas that warm up into berries, hayfields and peppery notes. Great firm structure, with tannins present with oak finish. Reminds me of Orin Swifts Reds.

Yummy floral and dark cherry notes are followed by just the slightest hint of earth & mocha. Silky smooth, it shifts towards bright red fruits (strawberry, pomegranate, plum) on the finish. 93pts.

Color: Clean pale yellow. Bouquet: Smells of grass and mint, sweet pear. Taste: A nice mild acidity, clean body and long finish. Crisp fruit taste with a hint of lime. Overall: Not bad! For the price I was quite surprised. As with most Bogle wines your mileage may vary. Drink immediately.

This is the first time that Bogle has made this limited edition Pinot Noir. Flavors of red raspberries and toasty vanilla oak make this the perfect barbecue wine.

A bit soft and dull, but itrsquo;s dry and silky like a Pinot Noir should be, with modest cherry and cola flavors.

The 2009 Pinot Noir from Bogle represents some of the best varietal growing regions our state has to offer. Fruit from the cool confines of the Russian River Valley, from the coastal hills of Monterey and from the unique Clarksburg Delta combine to create a garnet-colored wine, varietally correct and food friendly. The first impression recalls a sun-dappled forest clearing, scattered with sweet wild strawberries, rustic mint and hints of baking spices. Bright berry and cola follow on the well-balanced palate, surrounded by soft suggestions of tea leaves and lavender. From the mellow French oak, toasty vanilla winds itself throughout, creating a long, lingering and elegant finish. - Winery

Refreshingly pure and complex, with ripe, vivid wild berry, raspberry and blackberry fruit that's firm at points and supple at others. Full-bodied, with wonderful balance and harmony, ending with a dillish oak edge. Drink now. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.
