Tasting Notes - The name Bogle comes from the Scots word for phantom and this, their namesake wine, disappears like one too. A blend of 54% petite sirah, 43% zinfandel and 3% mourvedre, The Phantom is a haunting, fruit forward wine that begins with traces of blueberries, violets, chocolate-covered cherries and black pepper on the nose. Subtle notes of spice, clove and mocha complement the wine's fruit characteristics on the palate, finishing with toasting oak aromas from two years in a combination of one, two and three year old American oak. Enjoy now or let it rattle around in the cellar read more...

This is a big, full-bodied blend of dark, jammy berries and black pepper with subtle spice notes and an oaky finish. The wine possesses a high tannin level (relatively acidic), which suggests superior pairings with fatty foods, such as soft cheeses, lamb shanks and sausages.

Loved the past vintages and this does not disappoint - I want to wait another couple of months for the true test but here is my initial reaction - I tasted first and then let it sit in the fridge for 1 hour - that was the ticket - more pepper and spice than 2005 - I get lots of choc covered cherries, blueberries and mocha - smooth finish with a hint of choc candy - will be great 6 months from now!

As everyone knows, "bogle" is synonymous with hobgoblin, bogeyman, and bugbear. The Bogle Phantom, despite having a somewhat redundant name, is a tight, focused blend, consisting mainly of Petite Sirah and old-vine Zinfandel, with a touch of Mourvèdre adding mystique.
