Although the Bogle family has been farming since the mid-1800's, it was not until 1968 that the father and son team of Warren and Chris Bogle planted their first 20 acres of wine grapes in Clarksburg, California. In this small farming community nestled along the Sacramento River, the Bogle family's years of hard work have developed into an impressive grape growing operation, as well as a nationally acclaimed winery. Today Bogle Vineyards farms over 1,200 acres of wine grapes in the Delta region. While the winery was established ten years after the first grapes were planted, its success has grown tremendously along with the vineyards. The success of Bogle over the years is firmly rooted in one thing: the day-to-day involvement of the Bogle family in the hands-on effort to produce and promote quality wines. Patty Bogle became involved in the early years of the vineyards with her late husband Chris, when they planted fields together in the early 1970's. Patty took over operation of the winery in 1989 and has directed production to new and exciting heights. Patty's daughter Jody also contributes to the family business by being active in customer support, as well as running the wine club and handling all international sales. Patty's son Warren, named after the founder of Bogle Vineyards, is the sixth generation of the Bogle family to farm this fertile Delta region. Like his grandfather and father, Warren understands that in order to produce quality wines, you must first produce quality grapes. This tradition of respect for the land and the vines is crucial to the success of Bogle wines. The production of Bogle wine is influenced by this family tradition as well as the ever-changing trends in the wine industry. Since 1992, Bogle Winery has participated in the California Appellation Program. In this program, winemakers source fruit from some of the best vineyards in the state and blend them with Bogle's Estate Vineyards in Clarksburg, thus assuring that the wines benefit from many of the incredible grape growing regions of California. Each and every Bogle wine created is a unique and exciting blend with true varietal character and an approachable style. With their deep commitment to quality, the Bogle family wouldn't have it any other way. Read less

$8.99 at Trader Joe's. 2012 vintage. A little higher acid on first opening, but aerates into a very fruity, bold wine. Overripe cherries, strawberries, some blackberry. For those looking for a full-bodied, deep, complex wine, the 2012 Bogle Cab hit a better note, but I would definitely buy this wine again. Would serve to guests.

2012 vintage Bogle Merlot. Pleasant cherry nose. Overpowering acid on the palate. Seems a bit viney tannins as if they included the hard press into the wine. I much prefer the smoothness of a Maggio Family Vineyards Lodi Merlot.

From the winery, 'Developed and intense fruit from this harvest has produced one of our most full-bodied merlots yet! Deep cherry fruit hits both the nose and palate upon the first sip, followed by soft hints of summer anise. Touches of pipe tobacco and spicy oak lend weight to the finish, trailed by firm, assertive tannins.'

Supple and easygoing, with appealing flavors of black cherry, toasty oak and herb. Drink now through 2018.

Complex fruit, herb and subtle oak aromas lead to an appetizingly dry feel and mellow, woodsy, autumnal flavors. It’s medium bodied, smooth-textured and just savory enough to complement the tasty fruit flavors.

The exceptional growing season of 2012 was marked by a relatively long, cool summer. Grapes hung on the vine happily until harvest and the resulting vintage has brought us a Merlot wine full of bigger structure, deeper color and more complex aromatics. The first impression: a sensory overload of ripe fruits and savory garden herbs that overwhelms the nose. Summer plums and sweet cherries create a full entry and even bigger mouthfeel than lingers and languishes with the toasty vanilla from the American oak barrels. Remaining silky and smooth in texture, the wine finishes with sturdy tannins that wrap up this gift from 2012 perfectly. - WineryBARREL PROGRAM: 100% barrel aged in American oak for 12 monthsWINE pH: 3.59WINE ACIDITY: 0.54g/100mlALCOHOL: 13.5%
