Bogle Essential Red 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

"Seeking out old vines for Bogle’s Zinfandel is about finding the highest quality grapes, full of concentration and intensity. 60-80 year old head trained and dry farmed vines produce limited amounts of small clusters perfect for our Old Vine Zinfandel. Spicy and bold, this wine smells of fresh, ripe fruit and Malabar pepper, with the first impressions enticing you to take a sip. On the palate, flavors of homemade raspberry jam simmering on the stove abound. Surrounded by vanilla bean, juniper and toasty oak tones, this wine is well balanced through and through. Full at entry, mouth filling in the mid palate and finishing round and ripe, this wine resonates well beyond the last sip." -Winery

Although the Bogle family has been farming since the mid-1800's, it was not until 1968 that the father and son team of Warren and Chris Bogle planted their first 20 acres of wine grapes in Clarksburg, California. In this small farming community nestled along the Sacramento River, the Bogle family's years of hard work have developed into an impressive grape growing operation, as well as a nationally acclaimed winery. Today Bogle Vineyards farms over 1,200 acres of wine grapes in the Delta region. While the winery was established ten years after the first grapes were planted, its success has grown tremendously along with the vineyards. The success of Bogle over the years is firmly rooted in one thing: the day-to-day involvement of the Bogle family in the hands-on effort to produce and promote quality wines. Patty Bogle became involved in the early years of the vineyards with her late husband Chris, when they planted fields together in the early 1970's. Patty took over operation of the winery in 1989 and has directed production to new and exciting heights. Patty's daughter Jody also contributes to the family business by being active in customer support, as well as running the wine club and handling all international sales. Patty's son Warren, named after the founder of Bogle Vineyards, is the sixth generation of the Bogle family to farm this fertile Delta region. Like his grandfather and father, Warren understands that in order to produce quality wines, you must first produce quality grapes. This tradition of respect for the land and the vines is crucial to the success of Bogle wines. The production of Bogle wine is influenced by this family tradition as well as the ever-changing trends in the wine industry. Since 1992, Bogle Winery has participated in the California Appellation Program. In this program, winemakers source fruit from some of the best vineyards in the state and blend them with Bogle's Estate Vineyards in Clarksburg, thus assuring that the wines benefit from many of the incredible grape growing regions of California. Each and every Bogle wine created is a unique and exciting blend with true varietal character and an approachable style. With their deep commitment to quality, the Bogle family wouldn't have it any other way. Read less

Lighter bodied than most of the zin I drink but has a touch of fruit, a little spice and a soft finish. Very drinkable. Great wine for a party.

Head-trained, dry farmed vines are prized for their production of small, concentrated clusters of grapes that produce incredibly rich and intense wines. For years, Bogle has sought out these gnarly old vines to create our Old Vine Zinfandel. While Zinfandel and the word "sophisticated" aren't often found in the same sentence, this vintage from Bogle winemakers takes delicious fruit from the 2012 vintage and creates a wine lively with red cranberries and pink peppercorns. Hints of a hillside briar patch in summer waft through the wine as well, while spicy clove heightens at the finish from the oak aging. Rustic and refined at all once, this Zinfandel is sure to please! - WineryBARREL PROGRAM: 12 months in two year old American oakWINE pH: 3.63WINE ACIDITY: 0.53g/100mlALCOHOL: 14.5%

Family owned Bogle vineyards has an amazing reputation for producing wines that show outstanding value. So I guess it's no surprise that this luscious Red Blend is the #1 Best Buy red on the Wine Enthusiast's Top 100 Best Buys (#3 overall) of 2014! An old vine blend of Zin, Cab, Petite Sirah and Syrah aged 18 months in French and American oak barrels. The Wine Enthusiast scored it 91 points and said "This dry red blend is as sophisticated, structured and balanced as many high-end Cabernets. Made from old-vine Zin, with Syrah, Cabernet and Petite Sirah as well, it has a deep, exotic aroma of dark fruit plus cedar and cardamom. The flavor is richly fruity, the mouthfeel is firmly textured and the finish lingers nicely. It’s medium bodied and full-flavored." BTW Just Wine Points scored it 98!

This supple and mouth-filling vintage leads with juicy blueberry and ripe blackberry fruit. Black pepper and hints of chocolate notes integrate well with this soft, plush body. Subtle hints of spicy oak and pipe tobacco create structure, allowing this wine to stand up to a variety of fare.

Rich, enticing layers of complexity, starting with that first irresistible sip. Ripe fruit, intense with flavors of boysenberries and sweet cherries. Luscious vanilla, caressing the palate from barrel aging in American and French oak. Juicy and silky throughout, with a finish that lingers of black licorice and spicy pipe tobacco.
