The farm of Boekenhoutskloof wasoriginally granted to Huguenot settlers in1776. For two hundred years it remained in the same family. Over the two centuries they engaged in agricultural activities as diverse as tobacco, fruit, cattle and ultimately wine production. The original owners ceased wine production in the 1940s. The existing partnership re-opened the winery for production in 1996. Lead by Cellarmaster Marc Kent (South African Winemaker of the Year, 2007), the Winery is now regarded as one of SA’s top producers. Boekenhoutskloof is a Syrah specialist, with its premium range selling out on release each vintage. The Chocolate Block, a Syrah based blend, is probably the most successful new offering to come out of SA in the modern era. Boekenhoutskloof is acknowledged by Robert Parker’s Wine Buyer’s Guide and The 2009 Wine Report as South Africa’s # 1 producer. Read less

Are you like me? Do you enjoy your reds with an utterly unpronounceable name along with lush, deep, chocolate fruit and velvety tannins? Then say it out loud with me: Boekenhoutskloof. Feels good doesnrsquo;t it? With its sophisticated blend of Syrah, Grenache, Pinotage, Cincault and Cabernet Sauvignon, ldquo; The Wolf Traprdquo; is a great companion for plenty of summer BBQ fare. For around ten bucks, this medium- to full-bodied red is an outstanding everyday drinker, like Dean Martin.

Deep red. Roasted red berries, truffle and underbrush on the nose, plus a whiff of bay leaf. Moderately dense but creamy-sweet in the mouth, with flavors of raspberry, red currant, leather and pepper. Could use a bit more definition, but finishes with attractive sweetness and good persistence. An interesting blend of cabernet, pinotage, grenache and syrah.

This wine will trap your taste buds in a rich, lush, spicy style, with big red fruits, like blackberry and cherry, and vanillin oak in this briary wine. Expect a generous nature and silky-smooth tannins from a sly, stylish wolf of a wine with the intensity and richness of wines selling for twice its price.

Therersquo;s ample cherry fruit in this simple, juicy, tasty red from Boekenhoutskloof. the soft red feel will be a crowd pleaser, and slight hints of funkiness are positive here, preventing this from being just another bland blend. Closes drier, showing its Rhocirc;nish roots with slight herb-metal notes and modest tannins.
