There's a lot of wine here for the money. This wine shows ample body and abundant, dry tannins. This wine definitely bites, but in a good way. I like the nose, which shows mocha and roasted coffee beans. The palate is generous with blackberry and black currant flavors. It pairs great with a steak or triple cream cheeses.

One of the most full body Spanish wines we have had -- and a super reasonable price. Excellent.

The 2008 Volver is also 100% Tempranillo sourced from 50+-year-old vines and aged for 14 months in new French oak. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it showcases aromas of pain grille, earth notes, spice box, and fragrant blue and black fruits. Supple-textured, super-ripe and concentrated, on the palate it is mouth-filling, savory, and structured enough to evolve for 2-3 years. It can be enjoyed now and over the next 8-10 years. It is a great value that over-delivers in a big way.

Opaque violet. Musky cherry-cola and plum aromas are completed by notes of cured tobacco and cracked pepper. Tangy minerality adds verve to chewy dark fruit flavors, with a brighter raspberry note emerging with aeration. Finishes with solid grip and an echo of pepper. Serve this with a piece of grilled lamb.

There's raw intensity in this modern red, which offers assertive blackberry, espresso and anise flavors in a dense texture, with firm, chewy tannins. Best from 2011 through 2017.

Bright purple. Sexy aromas of blackberry, incense and cocoa powder are complemented by a suave smoky quality. Plush, creamy dark berry flavors posses plenty of weight but are energized by racy minerality. Chewy tannins arrive with air, adding grip to the broad, sappy, persistent finish. Complex enough to enjoy now.

The 2007 Volver is sourced from a single 72 acre vineyard that was planted in 1967 with head pruned Tempranillo. The wine was barrel-fermented and aged for 14 months in new French oak. Purple-colored, it offers up an alluring aromatic array of pain grille, smoke, violets, black cherry, and blackberry that jumps from the glass. On the palate it is medium- to full-bodied with gobs of ripe fruit, succulent flavors, soft tannins, and excellent balance. This lengthy effort over-delivers big-time and is a superb value. Bodegas Volver is a partnership between enologist Rafael Canizares and importer Jorge Ordonez.

This muscular red shows beef and iron notes, with plum and prune fruit in a thick texture. A bit blunt, but distinctive, with enough acidity to keep it all lively. Tempranillo. Drink now through 2014.

There has been viticulture in La Mancha since at least the 12th century, but it is believed that grapes were introduced by the Romans, as they were to the rest of Spain. The harsh conditions of La Mancha: hot (110°F.) in summer, cold (5°F.) in winter, drought and wind (remember the windmills of Don Quixote) and the old gnarled vines produce this wonderful, rich wine. Deep, brilliant ruby color, aromas of plum and dark, sweet cherries, and flavors of plum, cherry, cardamom, allspice and ginger combine in this full-bodied delicious wine. The smooth tannins, excellent mouthfeel and the long, satisfying finish complete the picture of this delightful wine. Serve with grilled venison fillets, Sparr's Calabrese sausages, or sautéed calves liver; or rent the movie of the same name and serve the wine with manchego cheese. This is a wine to return to again and again!
