This bottle had a very poor cork so it was not surprising that it showed a touch advanced but none-the -less this had a wonderful nose of leather, spice, dark, rich fruit and an earthy, gamey tang. In the mouth this showed good resolution but with particularly fine balance. It started out reticently but really developed over the several hours it was opened gaining a bit more mid-palate richness and depth of sweet, ripe fruit on the back end that lead to a long, layered finish. A real sense of finesse and elegance, much more so that with the last bottle. Certainly drinking well but with a very long life ahead 2008-2025

full dark color, makes me think of bulls blood. Stinky right out of the bottle, leathery with dark cherry and earth, minerally, shale, a hint of citrus, super sweet wood notes, a bit of carob, and a seductive cough drop note. very complex and dynamic nose. This is showing a bit more elegantly than previous bottles, perfectly integrated, a muscular dancer, earthy fresh fruit in the mouth with very vibrant red fruits, tightly coiled strawberries on the finish which is richly minerally and delicately tobacco tinged. A consistently great bottle of wine.

One of the 3 best wines I've ever tried. Rich and structured. Shows basically 3 layers ( but each one much more complex in itself than I am able to descibe): fruits (dark and wild fruits), vanilla and details from time in wood, and special details such as the exquisite animal smell. Although expensive, it is more than worthwhile.

Has the character of an excellent Rivera del Duero wine. Grate bouquet and a perfect balance between wood and fruit. Very complex.

Vintage: 2000 06/15/2011

Unico, from the legendary Vega Sicilia winery, is only produced in exceptional years. This wine, made from mostly Tempranillo and a little Cabernet Sauvignon, is barrel-aged for a minimum of 10 years before being released. Intense complexity and layer upon layer of co-mingling flavors makes this an unforgettable wine. This wine will continue to age for many decades to come.
