This generous red is deeply colored and lively, with plum, prune, tobacco and mineral flavors supported by well-integrated tannins. Balanced, and may still improve. Winemaker's Notes:
This is the "official" Vega Sicilia, only made in top years and released anywhere from 10 to 20 years after the vintage. It is this "racking" (transfering the wine from one barrel to another) that gives "Unico" its peculiar Spanish quality. A grape other than Tempranillo could not resist oxidation as well. After roughly 10 years of ageing in wood, the wine was bottled and cellared until its release.
