User Reviews for Bodegas Sierra Cantabria Tempranillo Rioja
Add your reviewVery fruity, aromatic nose, truly surprising taste with strong accents of plum, cherry, and elderberry. I believe that it is a wine to be savored and enjoyed now. When I served this wine at a local tasting some weeks ago, I found that it really needed to breathe about 20-30 minutes after opening, and swirled vigorously in the glass to release its aromatic essences. It is a fine wine to share with friends over dinner.
a fruity, easy to drink wine with complex aromas of red cherries, hints of menthol and smoke, flairs of wet earth, pleasant firm acidity and a sustained body, it benefits from decanting. Leather hints -predominantly in the palate- and very few on the nose. Medium to Long Finish. A masculine offering from Sierra, should be enjoyed now till 6+ years.

The estate-bottled 2007 Sierra Cantabria was aged for six months in tank and six months in seasoned French and American oak. Dark ruby in color, it has an alluring nose of violets, mineral, incense, and blackberry. In the mouth it shows off some finesse with its silky, easy-going personality. This expressive Rioja finishes with no hard edges. Drink it over the next three years. (100% tempranillo from high-altitude vineyards) Deep red. Strawberry and dried cherry aromas are lifted by an enticing floral element and complicated by notes of cured meat and underbrush. Sweet, silky and fine-grained, with firm acids energizing the raspberry and floral flavors. Dusty tannins add solid grip and carry through the long, spicy finish. With air, the red fruits come on strong, suggesting that this deserves decanting or some more cellar time. Definitely not a modern style of Rioja. Crisp and juicy, this light-bodied red offers tart cherry, orange peel and leafy flavors, structured more by acidity than tannin. Refreshing. Drink now. 7,000 cases imported. -TM
Winemaker's Notes:
Score: 89 Points (Jay Miller) Tasting Notes: The Sierra Cantabria Tinto is made from 100% Tempranillo. It was aged for 6 months in tank and 6 months in seasoned French and American oak. Purple-colored, it displays an enticing nose of cedar, Asian spices, violets, and blackberry compote. Dense and rich, this layered, lengthy effort over-delivers in a big way.
